ROSTRON _ Dr. Barbara Jodrell, MB. ChB D. OBST. December 30, 1932 - November 4, 2002 Dr. Barbara Jodrell Rostron passed away at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary on November 4, 2002. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Sir Frank and Lady Rostron and her brother Dr. David Rostron. She is survived by her best friend and life companion Patricia I. Wilson; special family Gail and Rocky Desjardins; and very special grandchildren, Kirk and Kirstie; most dear and close friends, Connie and Doug Schram and family, Ross Bevin, Glen Wilchek, Ian Robertson and Bob Silverthorn. Barbara graduated in 1957 from the Victoria University of Manchester, and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in England in 1959. She came to Canada in 1965 and was certified as a member of both the Canadian and Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a member of numerous medical associations. Barbara was affiliated with the Colonel Belcher, Holy Cross Hospital, and was an original staff member of the Foothills Hospital when it opened in 1966. She was honoured to have been elected and serve as the first woman President of the Foothills Medical Staff in 1980. Barbara was recognized for thirty years of service by the Foothills Hospital in 1996, and retired from her private medical practice shortly thereafter. Amongst Barbara's many accomplishments as a family practitioner, she perhaps will be most often remembered as the attending physician for numerous births. The longevity of her practice allowed her the enjoyment of delivering and caring for second generations. Colleagues, friends and former patients will remember Barbara for her commitment, dedication, fortitude, forthright demeanor, love of animals and nature. Barbara's love of horses and the outdoors, especially the Rockies, led to her many satisfying years of involvement with the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies of which she was a past president. At Barbara's request, Cremation has taken place and a private Service will be held. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Calgary Health Trust, 10101 Southport Road S.W., Calgary, T2W 3N2.
