My deepest condolences to Barbara's family as I just found out about her passing. I was out to see her a couple years ago to pick up my second puppy in 8 months. I was impressed with her stamina and positive outlook in her fight with cancer. I was truly blessed to have had the opportunity to reconnect with her and her shelties. My first two shelties came from her while she was still in the suburbs of Illinois and was my reason for seeking her out once again. Her compassion for this breed was exceptional and I learned a lot from her especially these last 2 visits. May God bless your family and her extended sheltie family as well.

My deepest sympathies to Barbara's family. I just heard about Barbara's passing and apologize for my belated condolence. I have two beautiful shelties ages 2 and 3 years that I acquired from Barbara. They are so loving and I owe much of my happiness to Barbara for sharing these Shelties with me. I often emailed her to keep her up-to-date on my dogs' agility skills. I enjoyed the relationship I had with her. She was a wonderful person.

My wife and I were fortunate to know Barbara for a number of years, and to acquire four wonderful Barwood Shelties from her; Sarah, Cutter, Stewart, and Missy (Sydney). (I'm also GodFather to another of her Shelties acquired by good friends; "Augie"). I can honestly say she was one of the most fascinating people I've ever met, and had that rare combination of pioneer character, a great sense of humor, honesty, a genuine lover of her shetland sheepdogs and the breed, and a dedication and accomplished history of improving the breed and the health of its dogs.
She will be greatly missed, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and all those who loved her.
Catherine and John Weekley, Cutter and Sarah (deceased), Stewart and Missy, and on behalf of Augie :
P.S. Thank you for unparalleled joy and many years loving happiness with our four-legged Barwood family members.
She will be sorely missed. But, as she crosses the Rainbow Bridge, and is with her shelties who preceded her, she leaves a great legacy of Barwood Shelties whose great attributes will live on for generations.

Barbara was a wonderful person who expected people to do things right and would offer all the support and kindness when she saw you were trying. She will be so missed by so many. My prayers go out for her family. She is probably in Heaven right now telling other angels the proper way to handle our Shelties at the Bridge. Don't you know there was a lot of tail wagging when she showed up? :-)

A friend for all seasons, Barb and I have been together through the high and low points in life. Always she advised taking the high road by staying positive, focusing on what you needed to do to move forward and not looking back.
Barbs lessons on life were always based on reality and practicality, her loyalty to family and friends was absolute. Her approach to life shows in the integrity, generosity and love with which her family in the midst of their grief and loss have embraced and comforted her friends.
I will miss Barbs friendship, love and wisdom.

Barbara was wealth of knowledge for the Sheltie community. She will be missed not only for her experience, but her kindness that she showed to the newcombers to the breed. She had a keen eye for a beautiful dog, was a good friend to those she was close to and will be greatly missed. She is now with her beloved husband and for certain her many Shelties that have been waiting at the bridge. My deepest sympathies to her family. God has her in his hands and she will be taking care of his kennel now.

No words can ever take away the sorrow when a loved one passes. But this quote sometimes makes it a little easier to bear. At least for me it does. "Make yourself familiar with the angels and behold them frequently in spirit; for without being seen, they are present with you" - St Francis de Sales.
You're Mom is now one of the angels.
