Age 89, of Pittsburgh, PA, died at home at Longwood at Oakmont on May 28, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born to Ruth Yarbrough and James D. Landauer at Miss Lippincott's Lying-In Hospital in New York City on July 26, 1928. She is survived by her three adored children, Bennett Widdoes Crocker and James Landauer Widdoes of Los Angeles, and William Peirce Widdoes, Jr. of Pittsburgh; and five perfect grandchildren, Charles L. of Philadelphia, Sumner D. of Los Angeles, Margaret H. of New York City, C. Reed and Margaret L. of Pittsburgh. An alumna of the Madeira School, '45, and Vassar College '49, she married W. Peirce Widdoes. They lived in New York City, and in 1950, moved to Pittsburgh. She immediately became active promoting the arts in the city, joining the Board of the Pittsburgh Playhouse and the Women's Committee of the Carnegie Museum of Art. With the Women's Committee she went on to co-create and later serve as Executive Director of the 3 Rivers Arts Festival. She was also active in her school and college alumnae organizations, the 3rd Presbyterian Church and the Pittsburgh Golf Club. She loved music and knew the lyrics to most of the songs of her time, and "anything Sondheim." She delighted in games, puzzles, poetry, biography, singing and laughter, Septembers in Nantucket, skiing anywhere from Austria to Negley Hill, her Pittsburgh friends and her adopted city. But most of all, she loved her family. Donations in Barbara's memory can be made in support of the Three Rivers Arts Festival through the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, 803 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Arrangements by BURKET - TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., Oakmont.

Just thought of my dear first patron and read the news. What a wonderful gracious lady she was. I was so proud to have known her all those years and loved her eclectic view of the arts. May memories keep you warm in the coming days.

I had the pleasure of working for Babs' during one Arts Festival. Despite all the confusion involved in such a large organization, she seldom lost her cool and was always cooperative. She taught me great lessons I used in my later career.

Bill, your mother ~ our Miss Barbara ~ was a dear woman. Many of us at Shea shared warm thoughts of her this week. Her calls were always pleasant, even when there was a problem to solve! :)

Mrs. Widdoes, you were by far my favorite client. I looked forward to seeing you at The Hair House every Wednesday and Saturday. Without knowing anything about you, I knew you were a strong woman. The toughest. I admired you. Knowing what I know now about you, I was right. You were and will forever be an amazing woman. 1pm at Hair By Damian's will never be the same without you. I'm honored to get to say I knew you. I will miss you. ❤
