Barney Horvath Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2022.
Barney Cornelius Horvath, M.D., passed away January 30, 2022, at 78.

Barney, known to friends and family as "Dr. H" or "Doc," was an incredible and generous man in everything he did, and touched the lives of so many along his journey in life. He was truly a gift to all who knew him.

His strive for education was reflected through his bachelor's degree from St John's University in Jamaica NY, located behind the home he grew up in. Followed by his Medical degree from the University of Montpellier France, accompanied by his brother Anthony.

Born in Hungary, his Hungarian heritage and travel were his true passions, and stemmed from that, his learning and perfecting multiple languages. He traveled often and always included his family to expand their knowledge of the world, for which they are beyond grateful.

To say he was an athlete is an understatement. From fencing, to judo and tennis, he excelled to the highest levels and loved sports to his core, and of course, the beer he earned afterwards. His devotion to sports and friendship continued throughout his life with weekly tennis games, and scheduled Tuesday nights with "The Boys" for a drink and great conversation. These friendships molded his life.

Barney was the beloved son of the late Dennis and Marianne Horvath. Survived by his children Jennifer, Melissa, Michael, Andrew, and Kathryn, as well as grandchildren, niece, nephew, and brother, Anthony.

The Funeral Mass will be held on March 3, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Andrew Catholic Church located at 9950 NW 29th St, Coral Springs, FL 33065.

While I only met him once at an air show well over a decade ago, he was so very kind and sweet. You could see from afar that he exuded love and caring for all. My heart surrounds his family. He is definitely shining brightly on us all. <3 <3 <3

"Barney" was great man and good friend for many years. I've many fond memories of Barney and especially the days going to his house in "The Hills" and playing tennis, riding horses and then the beverages. My deepest condolences to his family.

This is a complete shock to me! My sympathy to the entire Horvath family. I grew up in Inverrary and played tennis with Barney often. My father, Dr. Golin used to refer patients to him. Barney was also a great Doctor and was my "go to" for many injuries I had. When I visited him at his house in Parkland, it was the first time I rode a horse. What a fantastic Doctor, tennis practice partner and good friend he was to me and my family....RIP my friend!
