Barr Breckenridge Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2024.
Barr "Twink" Breckenridge, aged 76, passed away in his Guinda home on June 24, 2024. Born on June 3, 1948, Barr was a lifelong resident of Yolo County and appreciated the simplicities of country living.

Barr spent the majority of his career as a welder and millwright, where he applied his skills and talent constructing the framework for grain silos across northern California. Welding was not only his income but also allowed him to express his artistry, creativity and precision, crafting comical characters with metal. Check out the old sign at Plainfield Station, a gift for a previous owner back in the 80's.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Barr's hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, and 4-wheeling, activities that reflected his adventurous spirit and love for nature. Regular get aways with wife Denee to Bodega brought him joy and a chance to relax. Volunteering as fire fighter in the small town of Esparto allowed him to contribute to the local community. Trips with his children were not spent in hotels, rather rowing to a remote camping area, 4-wheeling to a spot along Indian Valley Reservoir, target practice and tubing on Cache Creek or angling for trout on the river near Dunsmuir. He was also a passionate reader with a keen interest in history and archeology, often merging his love for the past with his outdoor explorations.

Attending Willow Oak Elementary and later Woodland High, Barr was known for his intelligence and wit, nicknamed for the twinkle in his eye. As a child, it wasn't really punishment to be sent to his room. He would simply curl up with a book or sketchpad, a testament to his lifelong love for reading and drawing. Childhood family trips as members of the Elkhorn Boat Club, were spent boating on the delta or beach exploring at Doran Park Sand Dunes. Winters were eagerly anticipated for snowmobiling at Mt. Shasta.

Barr's life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Denee Breckenridge; daughters, Lori Tousignant and Ely Breckenridge; son, Simon Breckenridge; daughter in law Julie Breckenridge; son in law Darren Tousignant, brothers, Ken, Ronnie, and Bill Breckenridge; sister, Becky Gliatto; and of course, 5 incredible grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Lelwyn Breckenridge, and his son, Barr Jr. Breckenridge.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at the Esparto Boy Scout Cabin on August 24th at 2:00 PM. Bring your favorite dish and stories to share. Friends, family, and those whose lives were touched by Barr are welcome to join in celebrating his remarkable journey.
