My names Britany........I was there when it happened. I'm the brown haired girl that was interviewed in the news with my little sister. Barrett my sister and I rode in the elevator together the night before he had a really good sense of humor. I just wanted to let you know that I'm really sorry about what happened and even though i dont really know him i do think of him everyday. Waking up to him like that was really hard for my sister and I both. I hope everything is going okay......again im sorry for what happened.

Our hearts ache for you. While we do not know your family personally, we were at the same Compassionate Friends meeting last evening. There are no words to offer that could possibly express our sorrow or begin to offer comfort. Please know that we hold you close in thought and prayer. May God bless you with beautiful memories of Barrett and faith in the knowledge that you will one day hold him in your arms again.

Dear Steve:

I didn't know you until we shared a little about our families on the airplane ride to Detroit a few weeks ago. We learned that our kids school together and share some common friends. It was nice to meet you and hear about your family and your excitement for your trip, including golfing with Barrett. We said goodbye in Detroit, your family continued on to Daytona Beach, ours to Cancun.

Two days later, it was through phone calls that we heard the news of Barrett's tragic fall. From that moment until now, as a father of teenage boys and girls, your tragedy has been on my mind daily. I wanted to let you know that I and my family continue to think about you and your family, including Barrett. We cannot fathom what you are experiencing, but nonetheless, we send our prayers and whatever peace we can.

Sincerely,

Todd Biewen and Family

Dear Steve and Renee:
Words cannot express the sorrow that I have felt since I learned of the death of Barrett. I am so glad that we were able to get together for dinner and conversation with you last month. The loving stories that you shared about both Barrett and Britta showed the truly special relationship that you have with your children. Over the years Barrett had developed into quite a young man. And with so many accomplishments, he didn’t lose his sweetness. I can’t imagine the loss that you are feeling. Your family will continue to be in my prayers.

Renee and family
While I have not seen Renee for awhile and did not have the privilege of knowing Barrett, I have been praying for you since I heard the news. Barrett was clearly a gifted and most loved young man. I know you will always cherish the time God gave you with Barrett and the amazing impact he had on your family and the world. May God’s peace surround you during this unimaginably difficult time. I know you will always wonder why Barrett was taken to be with his heavenly father so soon, but pray that you will always be able to celebrate his life on earth.

Renee, Steve & Britta,
Words cannot express how saddened I was to hear of the loss of Barrett. I was his preschool teacher at FCDC back when Barrett was two years old . I will always remember his smile and big hugs. I would have guessed he was going to turn out to be such a successful and talented young man. You were such a wonderful family and I know you have a great extended family to help you through this horrific time. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and I want you to know I will be thinking of you often.

A long time ago I worked a place called FCDC. It was there, that I met Barrett and Britta. I remember them very well because of their white blond hair and shy sweet smiles. I look at Barrett's picture now and he looks the same to me. I am so sorry to hear about Barrett. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I worked for Steve at Green Tree, and if Barret was anything like his father, and it sounds like he was, he must have been a kind and thoughtful person.

Ugland family,
My family was vacationing at the Ocean Walk Resort when we awoke to the Daytona police knocking on our door to see if our four teens were safe and accounted for. (We were on the 25th floor directly above you.) While I was very grateful that our teens were still in bed, I was and still am heartsick over your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May the peace of God be with you during this unimaginably difficult time. I pray that you will be able to celebrate the incredible gift of life that was shared among you for sixteen years. Your son sounds like he was an extraordinary boy; I'm sure he has equally extraordinary parents.
Please know that you do not have to endure this time alone. You have many families, such as mine, that are upholding you in prayer. Even though we have never met, God has placed you on my heart and I will support you through my prayers. May the God of love and peace comfort you as only He can in the days ahead.

We haven't met, but my daughter, Emily Blasko, is a sophomore at Armstrong and has been in classes with Barrett. She has nothing but wonderful things to say about Barrett! My other daughter, Jana, is an 8th grader with Britta at Plymouth Middle School. Our family, like you, are members of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church. We too were in Florida when Emily received the news of Barrett's passing. I cannot begin to tell you how terribly sorry we are for your loss. Our entire family has been significantly impacted by this untimely and tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Please let us know if there is anything at all that we can do for you and may God comfort you and give you strength in the days ahead.

Steve and Renee:

This is the worst possible circumstances for us to find each other again after all these years. Susie and I have enjoyed seeing the Christmas cards of the kids as they grew up. I'm truly sorry I did not get to meet Barrett in person. I know what a great kid he had to be with parents like you two.

March 29, 2009

Steve, Renee and Britta,
We were out of the country and just heard of your tragic news early this morning. Words cannot express the sorrow we feel. We are all deeply affected by your loss and cannot even begin to imagine your grief. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We (and Cal especially) have so many fond memories of Barrett. Cal always enjoyed his time at your house with Barrett, Tucker and Charlie, staying up late in the pool, and talking/playing football.
May God comfort you during this time.

Steve,

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about Barrett’s tragic accident. He was such a genuinely nice kid, a real gentle giant. The outpouring of sympathy from all who knew him is a real testament to the type of young man he was.

When my Blackberry rang Sunday and I heard the news I had just finished telling one of my myriad of “Gland and Cliff” stories at a dinner with friends in Arizona. After talking with you my mind darted back to our phone call Thursday evening before we both left on vacation. We talked about how much I missed Patrick since he had left for Wharton and how much you would miss Barrett when he left college. We both agreed that we had to let our kids go to the best schools they could get into, no matter how hard it was on us dads. That conversation still haunts me.

The death of any child is horrible but I can’t imagine tucking one of my kids safely in bed only to awaken and hear they have died. I have thought about your family this entire week and have had trouble keeping the accident out of my mind.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, Renee and Britta at this very difficult time.

Dear Ugland Family,

We, too, picked the Ocean Walk Resort for our spring break trip. We checked in the same day as you with our sophomore daughter and our 4 other children. Our patio was next to yours, one floor down. We awoke one week ago also excited to see the morning sun. We quickly learned of your horrific tragedy, and we have been thinking about you and praying for you ever since. We hope you find the strength to endure at this sorrowful time in your lives. Please know our thoughts and prayers remain with you.

March 29, 2009

Steve, Renee, and Britta, words cannot express the sadness we feel. Having known Barrett since he and Evan first became friends at Pilgrim Lane and being able to watch him grow was truly a blessing. He was a bright, talented, and most importantly, kind young man. Though I didn't have the pleasure of teaching Barrett in my own class, I was fortunate to enjoy the way his contagious smile brought sunshine to Pilgrim Lane and Plymouth. We all loved watching his intensity on the football field, too. May the joy Barrett brought others help to strengthen you. Terri, Evan, and Brie
