Barry H. BARLOW

Thinking of you and our many turkeys together, missing you always dad.

We are certainly saddened to hear of Barry's death. He was a long-term friend of ours - we shared some unique experiences together during the last days of the Allende presidency in Santiago, Chile, experiences that few other non-Chilenos had. And he was a citizen of our country and our world whom we admired greatly - for his values and for his commitment to truth and justice. His death is a loss for us and for so many who never knew him, people who need the kind of truth and knowledge that Barry exuded. Humility disguised his stature as a man; he stood very tall! I'm very sad to hear of Dr. Barlow's passing. I am a former student, and he wrote me a very kind note some years later on reading about a legal case that I had argued at the Supreme Court. I was touched he remembered me and I've kept the note among my cherished posessions. My condolences to his family.

I had no idea that Barry had passed away, but a few moments ago his name popped into my mind for whatever reason and I googled his name. Very saddened to hear of his passing. He was a favourite professor of mine, in no small part to the genuine kindness he afforded to all who encountered him. My deepest sympathies to his family and to all those whose lives he touched.

He was of that age, "Blowin' in the Wind" as was I those many years past, colleagues at the fledgling UofS, Regina Campus. We were never friends, but I always enjoyed the times I was in his company, both in our teaching days, and in retirement. Music was the catalyst in this case, his views always so astute and precise. While infrequent, our encounters left an indelible impression on my mind and world ideas. I shall miss those precious times, as I know many of his friends and former colleagues will too. He leaves this planet a better place for what he gave it. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

We've enjoyed knowing Barry for years and years at the University and since he retired.
He loved the Arts community. We will miss seeing him at musical events.

I am sad to hear of Professor Barry Barlow's illness and passing. I have good memories of my brother, my Dad and myself all being his students in the 80s. Lots of great debates. He and Mary and Jasmine also attended Dad's annual Reindeer Romp. It was a honour to know him. With sincere sympathy to your family.

Our sincere sympathies to you both. We enjoyed visiting with Barry when we lived on Durham Drive and when our kids played together all those years ago. He was always so pleasant and such a proud father! Our prayers for you both.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Barlow. I was a student in one of his Political Science 100 classes in my first semester of University (in 1992). He was so very good at what he did and he definitely inspired this first year student! My condolences to Dr. Barlow's family.

He was a key presence in the department for many years and his contributions to his students and to the university were greatly appreciated.

We chatted together at the last Cecilian concert only days ago and often met after films at the library. Barry was always full of insight and had an excellent sense of repartee.

I was saddened to hear about Barry's passing. Apart from his considerable academic work, Barry belonged to many fiddle musical groups here in Regina. Also, after retirement, he presented many summer classes teaching political science to classes held on College Avenue. He was very enthusiastic in both these activities and happiest, I believe, when let loose to play some Celtic jig. As a member of one of the local musical groups that he attended we all enjoyed a meeting playing such music,for the pure joy it gave. After each meeting we would sip tea and maybe discuss politics. Most summers he attended fiddle workshops in the country. He was forever the happy smiling optimist.

Barry was a wonderful colleague and friend. He loved politics and music equally. He was a man of principle. If he saw something wrong, he reacted accordingly. I remember at a Political Science faculty meeting,20 years ago, we were evaluating the essays of our senior students, a professor who shall remain nameless, launched an outrageous attack on one our student's essays, charging plagiarism. We all were shocked when it became clear that the professor making the claim had not a scintilla of evidence. Barry was so angry that he showed his teeth! Barry Barlow was a quiet person who fought hard for justice. Maggie Siggins and I visited Barry at his home a few months ago. He was ailing to be sure, but we had a couple hours of spirited talk about current politics and music. Our best wishes go out Mary Lpve, Jasmin Barlow and David..

So many great memories of Barry , he will always be remembered .
Our condolences to all of the family

Barry and I were among a contingent of U.S. academics who came up to teach at U.Sask.,Regina Campus, as it was then known, and part of a handful who stayed. We have been acquainted off and on ever since. About
a decade ago I became his "IT guy" and we became friends spending occasional afternoons over a cup of tea sorting out the vagaries of computer technology and the political issues of the day. Jennifer and I will miss him.

I was so sorry to hear of Barry's passing. I loved his knowledge and passion for music and he had the best sense of humour- especially during Faculty Lunches. I hope he and my dad are both listening to Chopin together. My deepest condolences to you Mary and Jasmine and his family. All my love, he will be missed.

Barry was a professional colleague, political comrade and fellow music loving personal friend of my father, Bill Livant. When I was growing up in Regina in the 1970s, Barry was very often at our house talking with my dad about Tchaikovsky and Che and lots more besides. Sometimes we would shove some supper into him, as long as there was no cheese involved. As a kid, what I liked best about Barry was that he never talked down to me. He believed in social equality and lived up to it. Plus, he had a great sense of humour. To all of his family, I send sincere condolence for your loss of the man my pop used to call with deep affection, "Barley Barrow."

Mary and Jasmine: We are so very sorry to hear about the passing of Barry. It was always great having discussions with him about music and politics. His political insights will be very much missed in these difficult times. He had such a passion for music and it was great to see him playing the fiddle with such joy. Our thoughts are with you.
