Barry Lazarus Critedes

Barry L Critedes (Critides) passed away

In the early morning hours of Aug 4th

At the hospital

He had been bravely battling cancer

For year and a half

He was deeply loved by his family

Conchita A Critides his wife of many years

As well as his 3 adult children

Anastasia and husband Enrique,

Sophia his 2nd daughter and Barry Nico his son

and his wife Mevelyn

Barry was born in Newark in march 1930 to Greek immigrant parents who had fled Asia Minor some years earlier

He was the youngest child of Anastasios Critedes and Sophia Arnides Critedes

(Critides)

The family moved to Hoboken and had a small restaurant

Called Texas Lunch .

While they worked hard they were very poor and lived in small cold water flat on 14 th street

the family had strong Christian religious

Beliefs and that kept them happy

Barry was close to his brothers

Leo and Sam and Jim

And maintained good relationships

With them and their families through

The years

Barry excelled in school and played football but still found time to help peel potatoes etc at the family restaurant

His work ethic paid off and he went to

College in Texas where he boxed in order

To make tuition

He studied geology and engineering

And transferred to Oklahoma University

For his last year

Barry graduated with a BS

Degree in engineering and geology

Barry then served in military during the Korean war where he was stationed in Japan

He came home honorably discharged

In December 1954 and as he remembers it "Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye's movie White Christmas came out as he came home and that made him love the movie even more

Barry went to work for Schlumberger oil company in Columbia

Then went to Venzuela where he met his beautiful wife Conchita Alicia Methorst

Who lived there in Maracaibo Venezuela with her

Dutch parents as her father was a seacaptain for Shell oil company

They married and moved to the US

So they could be closer to Barry's family

After a few years their first daughter

Anastasia was born and then Sophia

A year and half later . They welcomed

their son Barry Nicholas (Nico) 4 years

Later.

Barry and his wife Conchita Alicia

Started a distribution agency

And worked for years doing this business.

Barry loved to work but loved his family

And went to church each Sunday

He also enjoyed traveling

And Barry was fluent in English and Greek and also Spanish, as well as knowing some Japanese and French .

He was well known in his work circles and church and loved for his outgoing personality and vibrant manner

He stayed in shape by walking

And other fitness and loved animals as well.

He had a good heart and great sense of humor

He will be missed by his family and friends

As well as so many work colleagues

And neighbors whom he made friends with over the years
