Beans Morocco

Beans Morocco, a comedic character actor with dozens of memorable television and film roles in the '70s, '80s, and '90s, died May 29, 2025 in Bakersfield, California at the age of 90.

Born Dan Barrow, Beans Morocco took his stage name from a comic character created by his friend cartoonist M.K. Brown. Nailing down the roles Morocco is best known for depends on the viewer. He showed up in landmark films like "Blazing Saddles" and "Eating Raoul," among others, but it's his dozens of television appearances that brought him directly into American living rooms. Early in his career, when he was still credited by his birth name, he appeared in "The Bob Newhart Show," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Dukes of Hazzard," "WKRP in Cincinnati," "Soap," and many others. In fact, many of his best-known appearances were done under the name Barrow, including spots on "Mork & Mindy," "The Fall Guy," and "Eight is Enough." As Beans Morocco, he had small but memorable comedic turns in "Police Academy 6: Under Siege," "Designing Women," "Mad About You," "Murphy Brown," and more. In the 1960s, he came up through the San Francisco-based improv group The Committee, and by the time of his final role, 2024 "Killing Cookie," he had been in over 100 productions.

Alum from The Committee expressed their condolences on Facebook. "Beans was a Committee member for many years and appeared in A Session with The Committee, Billy Jack, Eating Raoul, Used Cars, and a near immeasurable number of TV shows. We were grateful to have his presence at the Committee reunion that we hosted years ago, and we have a wonderful short interview recorded, in Beans fashion, in a rest stop parking lot just off the Grapevine. Keep on Trucking."
