Beatrice Newman Stressel

CLINTON - Beatrice Newman Stressel RN was called to the hands of the Lord on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, with her loving family by her side. Born in Clark Mills, NY on April 24th, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Reuben Clifford and Mary Gigliotti Newman.

She was a parishioner of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and a member for 55 years of the Clark Mills American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, Unit 26.

She graduated from Clinton Central School in 1953. Beatrice's passion was "to be an RN". She attended Crouse Irving School of Nursing in 1955. Through her determination and perseverance, she fulfilled her goal and received her Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing from Mohawk Valley Community College in 1968.

As a registered nurse her career consisted of employment at St. Luke's Hospital and then went on to retire with Midstate Correctional Facility where she was referred to as Nurse "Bea". Following her retirement, she worked as a school nurse and at Oneida County Jail.

Beatrice's commitment to nursing allowed her as a volunteer in a Medical Missionary to provide medical care to a village in El Salvador. She always expressed how this experience was challenging, enlightening and extremely rewarding and given the opportunity she would do it again.

She is survived by her four children: Sheree Whitby, Karl Stressel, Jr , Susan Stressel and Renee Riley; a brother, retired Major Kenneth (Carolyn) Newman; a sister, Theresa ( Milburn ) McFadden; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and extended family members. Predeceased by her sister, Joyce Nester.

Beatrice was passionate about being a nurse. Helping many people in their most vulnerable, and unexpected moments. She was a socially dynamic and self- determined person with a positive mind set. She enjoyed a sense of adventure.
