CHAMBERLAIN
Becky Chamberlain passed away gracefully on June 14 at the home she loved on the Guadalupe River. For everyone who knew her, and for many who only knew of her, there will be an unfillable void without her bright eyes, infectious chuckle, undying loyalty and perhaps most of all, her unshakable courage and tenacity.
One of four kids, Becky was born in Austin, Texas, on February 26, 1952 to Jim and Pat Gilliland. As a young child, the family lived in Temple, Killeen and McAllen before settling in San Antonio where she attended Churchill High School the very first year it opened. She then earned a bachelors degree in physical education at Texas Tech where she met friends and roommates who remain even today her very closest group of friends.
Always a fierce competitor, Becky was a champion swimmer in school, a tournament tennis player as an adult, and most recently, a formidable force on the local golf courses. But she would tell you the high point of her happy life was her magnificent daughter.
She was married to Tad Chamberlain for 34 years, lived in many cities around the country -- most notably Coronado, California and Spring Branch, Texas. She is survived by her father, Jim Gilliland; her husband, Tad Chamberlain; her daughter Erin Chesser; her stepson Steve Chamberlain, as well as her brother and sister Brian Gilliland and Kathy Vadney. None of them will ever be the same.
