Gordon W. Army, 79

Worcester - Gordon Willard Army, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2021, surrounded by his family and friends.

Gordon was born in Millbury, Massachusetts on January 12, 1942 to the late Anthony and Elna (Anderson) Army. He is survived by his loving life partner of thirty years, Eileen Ruane; his daughter, Cynthia Rosenbusch of Worcester; his son, Gordon Army of Worcester; his son, Jeffrey Army of Indiana; his sister, Nancy Lupienski of Gales Ferry, CT, and her husband Julian; his sister-in-law, Lynn Army of Millbury; three grandchildren, Joshua Smith and his wife Nicole of West Boylston, Jake Army of Worcester and Sarah Army of Indiana; two great-grandsons, Carter and Mason Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his brother Harold (Butch) Army of Millbury, MA, and his sister Joanne Maxwell. He leaves behind his cherished cocker spaniels, Brutus and Oliver.

Gordon attended the former Commerce High School in Worcester where he was a star athlete, excelling in baseball and track & field. He received an all-city recommendation in both, as well as being drafted by the New York Mets farm system for baseball.

After graduating, he was a dedicated employee at General Motors in Framingham before retiring due to health issues. Post-retirement, he enjoyed over twenty-five years of employment at Western Carriers in Auburn.

Gordon celebrated life to the fullest. He was a member and trustee of the Scandinavian Athletic Club (SAC Park) in Shrewsbury where he supported a multitude of social and charitable activities. Gordon loved golf and had a knack for winning tournaments. He was an avid fan of all things sports, including every Boston professional team and the New York Football Giants. You could always find Gordon tailgating and rooting for his favorite collegiate sports team, the Holy Cross Crusaders. He enjoyed dancing, '50s and country music, and traveling to tropical destinations with Eileen. Gordon will be greatly missed by the many friends and family who were so lucky to have known him.

Family and friends will celebrate and remember Gordon's life with a time of visitation on Wednesday, August 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury. His funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, August 19th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League at www.worcesterarl.com

If memory serves me, Gordon was one of the WORC GOOD GUYS baseball team!!! As teenagers, my friends and I would go and watch the games and cheer the guys on...I remember Paul Johnson and Johnny Houlihan were also on the team.....I can't remember if I took my pills this a.m., but I can remember back to the fun of those days!!! Rest in Peace. God Bless you, his family.

You don´t know me but in the 80´s my dad and ex husband owned the Tipperary Pub. I was the daytime bartender and it was scary to be alone in there with no windows an minimal doors . Gordon was one of a few good men who would sit to make sure you I was safe . They always stayed until another one came . He was a gentleman, I´m sorry for your loss .
