FATHER…
Most of us are fortunate enough to have one, Caring, Stern, Hardworking, Disciplined, Respected, Feared, Fun-Loving and Concerned…FATHER, I have had five.
The most recent that just departed is my uncle, Benjamin Arkward Sr. A constant reminder of my Grandmother, Bubba was my craft's teacher and Advisor. He showed me at an early age how to use tools, equipment, and machinery. How to respect mine and other people's property and advised me as I grew into a man about life and its many twists and turns.
Yeah, there were many things he lectured me on that I did not want to hear, but he never told me anything that would not benefit me in the long run. They say an “Arkward…can cut you with words”, let me just say the switch is a part of their arsenal as well.
I'll miss:
The talks we shared
The building projects he supervised
The wood that we chopped
The card games we played
The stories that were told
The music that was played
And in total the Wisdom that he gave

To the Family of Benjamin Arkward, May Almighty God comfort you in your sorrow. I will always have very good memories of Benjamin. I knew him over fifty years ago as a military cadet at the Saint Emma Military Academy. I was proud of the fact that his brother, Richard, succeeded me as the leader of the cadet company that I commanded my senior year. I was very happy to learn that Benjamin had also become a cadet officer. May he rest in peace. I shall always remember him. Marshall Cabiness, Saint Emma Military Academy, Class of 1961.
