Benegene was born August 17, 1944 in Lufkin, Texas to Berta "Bert" (Williams) Gann and Woody Gann. She lost her battle with lobular breast cancer Saturday, October 27, 2012. Benegene earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University, Class of '66. She was a retired geophysicist with ExxonMobil and for most of her geophysical career was based in Houston. Other bases were New Orleans, Louisiana; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Webridge, Surrey, England; and Denver Colorado.
Benegene had a passion for travel and during her life was fortunate enough to have visited many interesting places in the world. Organizational memberships include the Geophysical Society of Houston and Society of Exploration Geophysicists; Mary Hall Mantooth Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas; National Gann Family Historical Society; and Girl Scout Troop 72, whose members still get together. She was a charter member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church.
Benegene drew many loving and caring friendships into her life with her generous, compassionate, and joyful spirit. She created an extended family that included professional and long-time friends from all walks of life. This is especially true of her old EDPC co-workers.
Survivors include her father, Woody Gann and wife Charlene of Lufkin; brother, Tom Gann and Vicki Gann of Lufkin; sister, Natalie Crowson and husband Charles "Chuck" of Lufkin; niece, Laura Lester and husband Bill of Frisco; nephew, Nathan Gann and wife Crystal of Lufkin; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kate and Will Lester of Frisco and Cason and Cooper Perry of Lufkin; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Berta "Bert" (Williams) Gann.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy. It was indeed an honor to have Benegene as my Supervisor during her time at ExxonMobil. We often ran into each other at United Way events after she retired. And, we stayed in tough via facebook. She was a wonderful person and will be missed by everyone who knew her. May God bless you and be with you as you grieve your loss.

Benegene has been a very important person for the many M.G. enthusiasts in Houston. In 1971, she was one of a handful of people that so loved our LBCs (Little British Cars) that that they created the Houston MG Car Club. She is officially Member #2 in our roster of hundreds. Today there are 125 family memberships and hundreds of others that have participated in the club along the way.
Thank you Benegene, and SAFETY FAST!!

My sincere condolences on the loss of Benegene. I was not able to be around her once I married and moved to Hempstead, but I will always remember how kind and gracious she was to me during the few short years I was able to enjoy her company. May God give you his peace in knowing she is in a much better place.

I cherish the happy memories of Benegene and I playing with Tom and Natalie at the Gann's home on Vine Drive. What fun we had dreaming of becoming teachers, a concert pianist, and apparently a Geophysicist. How smart and lovng Benegene was. I treasure my many memories. She always gave to others and lifted our spirits. Take good care of each other.
