Dr. Graves was a very special person, and the undergraduate and graduate classes I had with him at UAH prepared me for successes I've had in the management and business information systems field. He was always up for a spirited debate on all sorts of subjects, and I credit him for inspiring my love of all things "business".

I remember many things about the time I spent with him, but two in particular stand out: his "check-minus, check, check-plus" grading system (I watched him put more than a few check-minuses behind my name for not being as prepared as I should have been!) and the summer term when where he held class in his living room after he broke his ankle and was unable to travel to campus. He and his lovely wife Hazeline made all of us students feel like special guests when we arrived at their home twice a week. That was truly one of the most unique experiences of my academic life.

Dr. Graves had a great impact on the direction and destiny of UAH, and I personally value the encouragement and support I received from him. My deepest sympathies for your loss.

Dr. Graves,

I took as many upper level classes at UAH as I could from Dr. Graves. He was a mentor for me whether he ever knew it or not.

After almost 30 years I still remember many of his stories of Millsaps, Ted Williams, Peter Drucker, Johnny Carson and others. He kindled my love for business management and education.

I loved you as a professor and appreciate your letter of recommendation for graduate school. Much of my success I attribute to your help and guidance. Thanks again.

It was with sorrow that I learned of Dr. Graves' passing. He hired me as a sociology faculty member, in the spring of 1978. Hazeline Graves sold us our house and became a friend. I will always remember both of them with affection. My memories of Ben Graves are of a man of competence, kindness, intelligenceand integrity. I send my deep condolences to you, his family.

Ben Graves, my first cousin, was an inspiration to me. Like him, I spent a good portion of my life in higher education including two presidencies. May God welcome him into eternal life with open arms. My deepest sympathy to his children, grandchildren, and sisters.
