Benjamin Green Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 15, 2025.
Benjamin Wayne Green went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 13, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Wayne was born September 21, 1938 in Dorchester, Texas to Ben Fredrick and Lillie O'Dell Peters Green. He graduated from Southmayd High School in 1956. Wayne worked for his brother Joe Green in Whitesboro, Texas, learning the upholstery trade, and was known for his "James Dean" 1949 Mercury Coupe on the Grayson County roads in the 1950's.

Wayne met Sue Jones on one of those roads in 1956 and was instantly smitten. They were married on June 29, 1957 in Sadler, Texas and became the parents of 2 daughters, Deborah Sue "Debbie" and Diane.

In 1962, Wayne became a Patrolman for the Greenville Police Department, and the family moved to Greenville, Texas. Wayne opened his own upholstery shop, "Wayne's Trim Shop" on Lee Street in Greenville from 1963-1971.

Wayne was elected Hunt County Sheriff in 1971 and served til 1976, when he was offered a position at Texas Commission on Law Enforcement in Austin. At TCLEOSE he worked as a Consultant to police departments in Texas assisting with management and investigations. The family moved to Round Rock in 1976 until the untimely death of Debbie in a car accident in 1985.

In 1991 they moved to Cedar Park. Wayne was the father figure to his 2 grandchildren, Sarah and Chase. He supported Sarah in her school dance programs and Chase as quarterback of the high school football team in Leander. He was so very proud of his grandchildren and served as treasurer of the Leander Lions High School Football Boosters for 3 years, cooked and served dinners for the football team on Thursday nights to make sure the boys were ready for Friday games.

Wayne and Sue moved to Rockport in 2013, enjoying the beach and fishing life while traveling to Mexico, Cuba, Ireland, Scotland, and England on numerous occasions. He loved visiting with his brother and sisters sharing stories of their childhoods moving to and from Texas and California for migrant work in the 40's.

Wayne and Sue relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to be near their grandkids and great-grandkids in 2025. Wayne loved watching them play and grow.

Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Sue Green, his parents, Ben and Lillie Green; sisters Lela Hively, Wanda Henry, Grace Gregg, brothers Billie Dean and Joe Green.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sue, daughter Diane and son-in-law Rob Harrell; granddaughter Sarah (Randall) Stewart and grandson Chase Keltgen (Quyn); great grandchildren Jack and Carter Stewart, all of Colorado Springs; and his brother Lavoy Green of Sachse, Texas.

Sue, Diane, Chase-Wayne was a multifaceted man. Interesting to visit with. Always there for his grandkids for whom he was so proud. He leaves a void that will be filled overtime with the memories built over the years. God bless you all.

I´m so sorry to hear of his passing, but what an accomplished and well lived man. I didn´t get the pleasure of knowing him for very long, but my interactions with him were always pleasant and joyful. He was a true pleasure to be around and I remember he had an infectious smile and great sense of humor.
