Benjamin Greenwaldt Obituary
A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Ben retired from Chrysler after more than 25 years of employment. He was a member of Spring Creek United Church of Christ, Local 1268 UAW Chrysler, American Legion, Local 77 and a Life-time member of the Harmony Club.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing, playing cards and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Greenwaldt; children, Sandy Johnson (Steve Hollenbeck), Brian (Cindy) Greenwaldt, Sarah (Mitch) Proctor, and Julie (Dustin) Eklund; grandchildren, Corey Greenwaldt (Micaela Ashby), Jacob Powell, Ryan Cox, Matt Cox, Austin and Aydin Eklund, and Crystal Powell; great-grandchildren, Corisa Powell and Finn Greenwaldt; sisters, Violet Larson, Vera Dickman, and Irene Monahan; brothers, Bob (Lorraine), Gerald (Shelba), and Phil (Mary Ann) Greenwaldt; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, son, Bradley Greenwaldt; sisters, Alice Greenwaldt and Florence Larson; brother, Kenneth Greenwaldt.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3rd, at Spring Creek United Church of Christ, 4500 Spring Creek Road, Rockford; Pastor Ivan Schoen officiating. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 2nd, at Sunset Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or Spring Creek UCC. Dear Joyce and family, Shirley and I are so saddened by the loss of Ben. He always was able to ease stressful situations and make me laugh. I fondly remember when he installed my water heater on Guilford and would not accept a dime. Shirley wishes to convey his gracious manner towards her whenever they met. God bless you all, eventually we will all meet again.

When Dad passed away I struggled with it for quite awhile. Finally I came to think of it as Dad took his last breath on this earth but immediately opened his eyes in heaven and didn't have to struggle to breath anymore or have any discomfort. Now Uncle Ben has no more struggles or discomfort and as much as you'll miss him, how can we not be happy for them. Hugging you all and sending you prayers to find comfort in your sorrow.

I'm so sad that he's gone. My heart goes out to all of you & you're in my thoughts & prayers. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with the Greenwaldts & there was always a lot of laughing :) Maybe Ben can say hi to Brad & Jimmy for me... love you all
