Benjamin Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2025.

JOHNSON, Benjamin Patrick (Ben), age 62 of Middletown, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025. He was born October 19, 1962 in Middletown, Ohio and lived there most of his life, except for his many travels with his career as a Deep-Sea Diving Medical Technician in the United States Navy. During his 22 years of service, he was able to take part in many adventures and missions, such as the recovery of the Civil War era ship " The Monitor". Primarily an Independent-Duty Corpsman, he later became a Deep-Sea Diver and trained in Hyperbaric Medicine. Upon his retirement from the military, he was able to spend more of his time with his family and was able to see his son, Jacob, enjoy participation on several competitive swim teams and became very much involved in the Boy Scouts of America, where they shared a love of the outdoors and the principles of scouting. They also shared a love of animals, always bringing home the odd stray or animal in need. More than anything else, Ben cherished this family time. Ben was a member of Holy Family Parish. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Amy (Karrasch) Johnson his son Jacob Patrick Johnson. His parents Howard L. and Marilyn A. (Sennet) Johnson, Jr., sisters, Lynette (Avery) Lee and Angela Johnson; one niece, Samantha Lee; one nephew Erik Lee; and numerous extended family and friends. A memorial Mass will take place on Friday February 7, 2025 at 3 p.m., Holy Trinity Church Middletown, Ohio with a visitation one hour prior at the church. His family is honoring his wishes to buried at sea in a Naval Ceremony aboard a U.S. Navy ship. In lieu of flowers his sisters suggest memorial contributions in his name be made to: K9s for Warriors https://k9sforwarriors.org, Til Valhalla Project https:// tilvalhallaproject.com or any other charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, Ohio. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.herr-riggs.com.

Ben was my first medic when I checked into my first command at Underwater Construction Team One in 1996. Ben and Amy were very welcoming and opened their home and hearts to me ... so I could dog sit for them - just kidding. They loved their dalmatians and loved hosting parties. I loved housesitting for them when they went on vacation without their dogs. Instead of living in a jail cell sized barracks room, I could live the dream in their glorious home that included a pool table! Ben would always insist that I join them for any holiday celebration - a `no-brainer´ since Ben had some mad cooking skills. His best quote, "Every good recipe starts with four sticks of butter."

Miss you Ben. Rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Chris Munch

Johnson family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember what a great swimmer Ben was when we were kids. May God give you comfort at this difficult time.

Ben and I were great school friends at St. John´s... or as us Middletown Catholics know it...John XXIII - West Campus. Sometimes, we sneak over to George´s grocery on Central Avenue and buy candy after school, which was not permitted. Especially by patrol crossing guards. That was the last day I was a school crossing guard. Thanks, Ben!
Love ya, brother!
