Detective Benjamin Edward Marconi

We are coming up on 8 years of you being taken from us. We met when we were hired by SAPD and went through the academy together. We all went through a lot, but you were always one of the finest. I hated we had to box each other, and I know you did too. You didn't mean to bust my eye open, and I could see you felt bad about it. And having to take me to the emergency room and we laughed about it. Looking back, it was one of the things that made us closer friends. You were definitely the best of us in class 95-A. I miss you, Ben. See you in Valhalla/Heavan.

Two years ago, we were saddened at the passing of Detective Marconi. My thoughts and prayers are with his family this holiday season. God bless you all. Rest in peace, sir.

I did not have the honor of meeting Detective Marconi, but I was recently sworn in as a Floresville Police Officer & I am extremely grateful to have the privilege of serving & protecting his home town. The day I was officially sworn in at the Floresville City Hall there was a large banner hanging from the front of the building with Detective Marconi's photograph promenitely displayed on it along with his dates of service as a Police Officer. My Father was a Chaplain for the SAPOA for several years & I have enormous respect for the men & women of the SAPD. They hire the best of the best & Detective Marconi was one of the best of those. It's very clear how much the City of Floresville loved & respected Detective Marconi, not just for being an exemplary Police Officer, which he absolutely was, but also as a resident of the Floresville Community. My deepest sympathies & condolences to the Marconi Family, along with my prayers that God will provide you with some comfort to help ease the pain that will never completely go away. I promise you that I will always conduct myself in a manner that reflects appreciation for the great man, who's life was lost protecting the City of San Antonio. I will also give 150% every day to protect & serve the City he called home! I watched the whole funeral service yesterday from my home in Canada.Even though i did not have the pleasure of meeting Detective Marconi, I am deeply saddened for your loss and the loss of the city he served in. Another good man taken away, but God now has another special angel. RIP Detective Marconi and thank you for your services and protection of the people of your city.

When Ben smiled, it made your heart smile with him. I am not surprised at how many people this young man touched in his lifetime. The Floresville Class of '84 has lost a true hero. Ben always took the time to talk to anyone and treated everyone with respect. I am still heart-broken that he is gone so soon. My prayers and thoughts are with you all at this tragic time.

My condolences to the Marconi Family on the loss of their beloved Benjamin. He went into the arms of the Lord and was lovingly welcomed by his parents to his eternal home. The Good Lord in exchange left his heartbroken family a treasure of wonderful memories to cherish forever. Minnie, Mary Jane and I were classmates at Edgewood HS and graduated in '55. Not sure how to manage my thoughts when I walk to the building or into SVU. Not sure about much anymore. When I think of Benji I revisit a more happier time spent at Grandma and Grandpa Marconi's during the summers in Gary Indiana. Even at such a young age Benji had the wonderful traits of Aunt Minnie, just a way about him that would make you feel comfortable and loved. He also had traits of Uncle Jim, always protective of his sisters Debi and Terri. And despite his young age he demonstrated loyalty and honor and pride to his brother Tommy. Benji was and is a breath of fresh air who could show you the good in everything. He was never the last one picked for whatever game we played because we all wanted Benji on our side because he showed heart. As we grew older in our lives we come to know that boys who grow into men derive their self- worth from intellectual ability to solve problems and perform tasks efficiently. For the many who have been blessed to watch Benji grow from a young boy into an outstanding man know that whatever Benji did always came from his heart. Benji's self-worth came from the vulnerable truth that many men could not accomplish. Benji demonstrated showing his heart from a very young age, anyone who came in contact with him knew his love and caring for others was purely genuine. When Benji was 9 or 10 he wanted to be a priest and he prayed and blessed everyone. At such a young age you wanted to listen to his calming voice and his loving manner, he was and is truly special. It saddens me that the life of such a genuine man Benji became be was taken so tragically and senseless. Thank you for being a true Angel walking the earth. For those of us left behind know you have inspired us to honor your memory by showing our heart to others. Walk with the Angels my dear cousin may you continue to show your heart in heaven.

When I saw the breaking news of an officer was killed. My first thought went out to his family member and what they are going through.
