Surrounded by his family and while in the loving care of Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Hospital, Ben's courageous and longtime battle with leukemia ended September 16, 2022.
Ben was a native of Colorado Springs, graduated from Coronado High school and attended several local universities, earning his master's degree in Information Technology. He was a proud member of the IT team at Progressive Insurance where he was respected and loved by his associates, teammates and managers that he worked with over the last few years of his life.
Ben will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, incredibly amazing intelligence, compassion and especially for adopting, loving and nurturing Samoyed rescues, which was the joy of his life.
At the time of Ben's death, he was survived by his parents, Melanie and Phil Nielsen, sister Elise Nielsen (Rick), his nephews Colbey and Coltan (Shannon) and the Krueger Families.
In November of 2022, Ben's mother Melanie also passed.
A special thank you from the family goes out to Dennis Ferris, The Progressive Team, Lucky Dog and Fillmore Veterinary Hospital.
As Ben requested, no services are planned.
Donations may be made in Ben's name to Denver Samoyed Rescue.

Obviously I have not been in touch with Ben for a couple of years after being married briefly many years ago. But we did reconnect later and I was disheartened to know he was in poor health, however, I am utterly shocked to read of his passing and share my condolences with Phil and Elise.
