Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 4, 2024.
Benjamin Van Cleave Sanford, affectionately known as Ben, passed away on June 18, 2024, at the age of 44, in Bratenahl, Ohio. Born on August 18, 1979, in Memphis, Tennessee, Ben was the cherished son of Gerald W. and Brenda Van Cleave Sanford, and the beloved brother of William "Will" Randle Sanford.

Ben's early education was at Farmington Elementary and Centennial High School in Tennessee, followed by his studies at Middle Tennessee State University where he graduated Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key and summa cum laude.

From a young age, Ben showed a keen interest in entrepreneurship and machinery. He began his career mowing yards at the age of 12, learning the intricacies of landscaping before moving into sales of heavy equipment used in mining, road construction, and more.

Ben was a member of the Church of Christ. His hobbies included sketching, studying World War II history, building model airplanes, and landscaping. He also had a passion for collecting vintage toys and enjoyed swimming in Lake Erie, a pastime that brought him much joy and relaxation.

Ben was known for his kind, clever, and funny personality. He was loyal, sensitive, caring, compassionate, artistic, smart, and creative. Above all, he loved his family dearly, a testament to his compassionate nature.

Ben is survived by his parents, Gerald and Brenda, and his brother, Will. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry H. "Bill" and Bertie Randle Van Cleave, and Robert J. and Lotis Denton Sanford.

Ben's life was a portrait of dedication, love, and service, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Oh Brenda I was looking for your address and came across this very sad news of Ben.
I am so sorry. Ben sounded like a very wonderful man. My youngest daughter was born 6-30-80. I can not imagine how hard this year has been for you. I wish I could think of something to say to make you feel better. I will pray for God to surround you and Gerald and Ben´s brother
with His love.

Brenda you were my favorite friend at Lipscomb. You were real, caring, encouraging and fun. Ben must have been like you! I´m very sorry I didn´t stay in touch.

I am driving thru Memphis on 8-8-25 and just wanted to ask a question.
