Benjamin Shoemaker Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on May 13, 2025.
Benjamin "Ben" Shoemaker, a native of Jackson County, FL and follower of Christ, passed from this world into God's presence on May 11, 2025 (age 79). Praise God for His mercy and grace and Ben's acceptance of Jesus as Lord. Hallelujah! Ben now has full assurance of everlasting life as his spirit rests peacefully in Heaven.
Ben was a man of modest character and few words; he lived a simple and fulfilling life, strived for perfection, and insisted upon doing "right." God blessed Ben with many talents and abilities, but especially gifted him with skills of woodworking and constructing. During his lifetime, Ben built an array of things for himself and his family. He constructed homes, cabinetry, furniture, hunting & fiishing paraphernalia, and gadgets of all kinds. Everything he created was built with strength to endure usage.
Much of Ben's time was spent outdoors, relaxing in the peace and tranquility of nature. His outdoor explorations started when he was a child in the town of Malone where he roamed freely, rode his bike, shot squirrels, and found adventure. Growing up, Ben and his sisters spent carefree time together as they frolicked the town and tried their best to stay out of trouble! Ben began working at a young age in their family-owned restaurant (Stella's Cafe); there, he performed the dreaded duty of "dishwashing," a task that forevermore ended his desire to do dishes!
High school life was alright for Ben, especially when he went to the library and "held hands with Ada." She was the love of his life! Ben and Ada shared nearly 48 years of matrimony and created a beautiful family together. Ben's life endeavor was to provide for his family; he often harvested wild game as a way to put food on the table. Ben enjoyed cooking, and especially liked to bake teacake, pecan pies, rice pudding and holiday desserts. He was definitely a DIY kind of man. He could sew better than most women and would often stitch up his own hunting attire, which suited him far better than storebought items. Ben could carve wood, make gun handles, and design unique gifts. He was indeed a Master Craftsman!
For a period of over 42 years, Ben worked hard as a dedicated employee of the Federal/State Inspection Service; he was responsible for inspecting fruit and vegetables in the entire region (GA, FL, & AL). Whether inspecting tomatoes, peanuts, peaches, citrus or other fruit, Ben took pride in his work and did it well. He was admired and respected by employees, colleagues, and friends.
Ben will be remembered for his personal legacy of leading with courage, strength, and integrity. These qualities were instilled in Ben's innermost being by his father and mother who each descended from a lineage of God-fearing ancestors, many of whom were pioneers of Jackson County, FL. Several were colonist from the Mayflower, which made Ben feel proud of his heritage.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Russell & Stella Shoemaker of Malone, Florida; his daughter, Glenda Shoemaker; his devoted wife, Ada Shoemaker; and niece, Stephanie Ham. Also preceding him in death, were Ben's beloved brothers-in-law, Luther Conrad, Mose Barron, and Hayes Ham.
Survivors include his son, Ricky Shoemaker (Susan); and his daughters, Linda Monroy and Carolyn Bennett.
Precious memories of Ben will be treasured by his grandchildren, Kendra Weeks (Chris); Regina Collins (Evan); Celena Wilson (Josh); and Benjamin Monroy. Ben's great-grandchildren will have the honor and privilege of upholding the legacy set by their great-grandfather; these children are Renleigh Peyton Stewart, McKenzie Wilson, Grayson Collins, Benjamin & David Wilson, and (soon to arrive) Anna Grace Collins.
Ben will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who love him immensely. Though we will grieve Ben's temporary separation from us, we praise God for the opportunity to have known him. Enthusiastically, we await the day when believers shall joyfully reunite with Ben in Heaven and see Christ Jesus! Thanks to "the Giver of Life," who said to Ben, "Follow Me!" By the power of the Holy Spirit, Ben's precious soul has been saved... FORGIVEN!
In remembrance of Ben Shoemaker, a Celebration of Life graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at10:00 a.m in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ed Ham and Rev. Steve Welch officiating.
