Opal A. Springer

Born: Oct. 21, 1921; in Oroville, CA

Died: Sept. 7, 2014; in Geneva, IL

Opal A. Springer, nee Amaral, age 92, passed away peacefully and with dignity with her family at her bedside at Delnor Community Hospital, in Geneva, Illinois, on September 7, 2014. The cause of death was cancer. Opal was born on October 21, 1921 in Oroville, California.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jack; sister, Jeanne Goudie; and her husband, Frank Springer, with whom she shared a love of horse racing and dancing.

Opal was a devoted mother to Leon Jones (Myrna), David Jones (Maria), and Marilyn Prout; loving grandmother of Dana Lassek, Tracy Bunye (Bernard), Stacy Sosnowski, Trina Williams (Clay), and Brock Jones(Amy). Opal's spirit will be carried on by her amazing great-grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Alice Pearl, Jackson, Isabelle, Cadence, Elsie Joy, Sarah Grace, Cache, and Rider. Opal is also survived by her sister, Virginia Burton; and many nieces and nephews.

Even in her last days, Opal was quick-witted and kept up with the day-to-day activities of her many loved ones. She demonstrated resilience throughout her life as she moved to many different states and made friends across the country. She approached her illness with the same courage and practicality. Opal will be dearly missed by her family.

Relatives and friends are encouraged to join the family in remembering Opal at Moss Funeral Home in Batavia, on Sunday, October 5, 2014. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Pineview for all of the wonderful care that they provided to Opal during her extended stay. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Delnor for their thoughtfulness and care during her final days.
