Just recently heard about the passing of our beloved chaplain from 2d Bn, 5th Marines. Ben was a wonderful chaplain who met the spiritual needs of so many of the Marines and sailors of the battalion. Always eager to put himself in their shoes to better connect he endured grueling physical fitness, martial arts, and hiking with the grunts. These situations allowed him to better understand and ultimately serve those he loved most, the troops. He was a phenomenal asset to the Bn, blending well with the command staff and always meeting the commander's intent. Above all he was a proud family man. I often remember him bringing his children along with their scout buddies to the battalion CP for tours and lectures on the history and artifacts of the unit.
A true loss to the Marine Corps, the Naval Service, and ultimately his family. God's peace during this difficult time.

Ben helped me through a very difficult time when I suffered a loss while we were deployed. I'm saddened to hear of his passing and send prayers to his family. His lasting legacy will live on because of the guidance and assistance he provided while with us.

I served with Ben for the past couple of years. He was my Chaplain and my good friend onboard USS LABOON. He was one of the best people I have ever met. During our time together, stuck on a ship floating in the middle of the ocean, he helped me through more hard times than I can remember. He did so much for me and I am saddened that I will never get to return the favor. I take comfort in the fact that the last time we spoke we ended with a hug and not a handshake, I hope this small gesture let him know how much his friendship meant to me.

I am heartbroken for you and your family and send my sincerest condolences.
