Benoit Avice du Buisson CHARLESTON - Philippe Gerard Guy Benoit "Ben" Avice Du Buisson, 68, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Sarah "Sallie" Anne Hughes Doscher Avice du Buisson, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Ben was born November 3, 1954 in Curepipe, Mauritius to Guy Avice du Buisson and Nicole Bourgault du Coudray Avice du Buisson. In the 1960s, his family moved to Durban, South Africa, where Ben finished school and entered university. It was in Durban that Ben became an avid sailor of boats large and small. While he was in university studying engineering, he began working in the boat building industry. His career and love of boats led him to England and France. Ultimately he was employed by Beneteau, a French boat building company, which sent him to their facility in Marion, South Carolina. He met Sallie, his wife of 30 years, on a sailboat in Charleston Harbor. He continued to sail as long as he was able and remained a part of the sailing community for the balance of his years. He was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club. Ben was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother-in-law, James A. Shannon, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sallie, and his two brothers, Patrick Avice du Buisson and wife, Diane, and Didier Avice du Buisson and wife, Caroline, both of Nashville TN; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Doscher Byrd and husband, Bobby, of Charleston, and Beth Doscher Shannon of Charlottesville, VA; a niece, Kelly Shannon-Henderson and husband, Conor Henderson of Cincinnati, OH; three nephews, James Shannon and wife, Jeanette of Buford, GA, William Byrd and Andrew Byrd, both of Charleston; and two great-nieces, Nuala Henderson of Cincinnati, OH, and Camila Shannon of Buford, GA. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford St., Charleston, SC on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Interment prior to the service will be private. Arrangements are being handled by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel. Memorials may be made to Charleston Animal Society or Pet Helpers Charleston.
