Bernadine Ruth Ferguson Pearce ABINGDON, Va. Bernadine Ruth Ferguson Pearce, age 85, a well-known resident of the Rattle Creek Community, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee. She was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Burdett Ferguson and Emaline McAllister Ferguson. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School in Akron and attended Akron University. She married Timothy Ward Pearce Jr. in 1949 and moved to Abingdon. She worked for Farmers Exchange Bank and Southern States when she first came to the area. She was a seamstress, and she and her husband were co-owners of Pearce Dry Cleaners for over 40 years. After retirement, she continued with her own alteration business. She and her husband provided a home and were caregivers to many family members through the years. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Bristol Virginia. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Ward Pearce Jr.; one loving daughter, Susan Pearce Hayes; and five siblings. Survivors include two daughters, Betsy Pearce and Mary D. Hinchey and husband, Brian, all of Abingdon; one son, Timothy Ward Pearce III and wife, Kathy, of Abingdon; one sister, Eileen Herdina and husband, Joseph, of Savannah, Ga.; four grandchildren, Lucas Hayes, Chelsea Pearce, Morgan Pearce, and Adam Hinchey; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Knollkreg Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Bernadine Ruth Ferguson Pearce. The family would like to express thanks to their friends and neighbors for their wonderful support.
