BERNARD BEHRENS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2012.
Behrens , Bernard "Bernie" P. Jr., left this life as we know it on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Bernie was born July 5, 1944 in San Mateo, CA. He spent his early childhood in the LA area before his family moved to Anaheim, CA in 1957. He graduated from Anaheim High School in 1962, received a Bachelor of Business degree from Cal State Fullerton and served two years in the Army.

Bernie had suffered the past year with throat cancer and had fought a long and hard battle. He was a brave and courageous man. He kept his dignity to the very last day. Bernie's last tasks were to make sure that his life partner of 42 years, Suzanne Jacobs would be well taken care of, and that things would be made easier for her after his demise. His last thoughts were of her.

Bernie had been retired from the Orange County Auditor Controller's office for the last 7 years. He had worked for the county for 35 years as a system analyst. Since his retirement, Bernie's time was spent "putzing" around the house, keeping things in working order, running errands, taking care of interests on the computer, and making sure that the neighbors and neighborhood were doing good.

Bernie was a quiet, gentlemanly, and polite man, always proper in conduct and appearance. He always thought of the other person's well being and comfort before his own.

Bernie leaves a brother, Michael Behrens of Anaheim; brother, David Behrens in Missouri; and sister, Janet Mills of Washington State. Bernie also leaves his life partner of 42 years, Suzanne Jacobs of Santa Ana; his "step" daughter, Shelly Chace of Riverside (her three daughters, Samantha of Riverside, with soon to be "step" great-granddaughter, Hailey Chace of Menifee and Rachell Chace of Santa Ana.

Bernie was a man of few words, but his actions of courage, pride, generosity and dignity spoke more about him than mere words could ever say. He will be missed by friends, neighbors and relatives more than he could ever imagine. His memory will be kept alive by so many who loved and knew him as the quiet, but thoughtful man that he was.

Suzanne, family, and friends of Berine Jr.
I wish to offer my sincerest condolences for the loss of Bernie Jr. Though I hadn't seen him for many years it doesn't seem he changed from the caring person I remember from our childhood.

Susie and Bernie. It's always been that way. Over 40 years ago I met Bernie for the first time and he was quite, a gentleman and handsome. I liked him immediately. When the kids were growing up Bernie was so good and giving and gentle to them and then the granddaughters too! My family had many good times at Bernie and Susie's, so many celebrations and later, visits for days. Bernie always made us feel welcomed and loved. I just can't imagine not seeing Bernie and getting those famous words,"what can I get you?" Susie, Bernie loved you so very much. He was a rock. I'll miss him and I hope he is having a good time in heaven reuniting with all who have gone before him. It's so hard and it hurts to lose Bernie, until later. There aren't enough words to say what's in the heart! Love you both Sally

The world may see us grow old, but brothers and sisters see each other as we have always been. We share parents, siblings, our youth. We share each other's history and our bond lives outside the touch of time. With love for my big brother. Bernie - you will always live in my heart. Janet

Bernie, Bernie, Bernie!!! I miss you sooo much!!!! You left too soon!!! Thank you for all your love and support for 42yrs!!! You always came through for me, no matter what I needed. I know your last deeds were for my benefit. That was the way you were. Take care of the tasks at hand and do them in order. You were so brave with everything you went through.
