IN MEMORIAM Flt./Sgt. BERNARD EDWIN SAMUELS Died January 31, 1943, age 23. Who will remember him when I am gone, who will know the sweetness of his smile, his zest for life, and his love for his family? He didn't live long enough to marry, to have children, and he never knew his nieces and nephews. Bernie was my big brother who looked after me, who taught me that there was beauty in Nature, and comforted me when I was sad or in pain. We planned to fly together after the war, and he enjoyed quizzing me on aircraft recognition. He even bragged to his fellow airmen about his thirteen-year-old sister's ability to give the right answers. Bernie was my skipper, and my hero. I have cherished my memories of him every day for sixty-five years, and grieved that he could not be here to share his life with me. When I am gone, who will remember him? Estelle Samuels Bolker
