BERNARD VAVREK Obituary
Age 82, of Moon Township, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015. Born on March 18, 1933, in McKees Rocks, PA, he was the son of the late George and Rose (Kurtz) Vavrek. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Evelyn (Guiliani) Vavrek; daughters, Melissa (Keith) Little of Roaring Spring, PA and Kathy (Ken) Taylor of McKean, PA. Also, grandchildren, David, Scott, John and Julia Taylor and Miranda and Sarah Little; and sister, Rita Diroll. He was preceded in death by siblings, Herman, Theresa Panzak, and Sr. Immaculata O.S.F. Bernard served in Korea with the U.S. Army and was a member at the V.F.W. and American Legion. His hobbies included photography and woodworking. Services will be held at COPELAND'S MOON TOWNSHIP, 981 Brodhead Rd. Visitation Sunday 2-8 p.m. and Funeral on Monday at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Thomas Petrosky and Father Richard Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Coraopolis Cemetery with full military honors.

I only now learned of Dr. Vavrek's passing. I never met him in person, but spoke with him many times on the phone and he was my principal source of inspiration and help on my masters thesis about Ohio bookmobile programs and their use by homeschoolers while I was at KSUSLIS. He later published a version of the paper in the publication of his Center for Rural Librarianship. The folks at the Portage County District Library's bookmobile program held him in high regard. As they say in Spanish, Que En Paz Descanse (QEPD).
