Bernie and I spent a lot of tinge driving around and camping and backpacking in the USA. we went you Europe together. We owned a 2 flat apartment building together in West Roger´s Park. We partied together, learned from each other via man hours of discussion, and shared numerous life experiences. My life was enriched by my good friend Bernie. I miss him deeply

Bernie was my cousin, our moms were sisters, and we lived about 2 blocks apart as kids. He was like a brother to me, and he felt the same way. As adults, we canoed and hiked together. We even lived together for a few months. He was a very positive and generous person, intelligent, and was loyal to me and his friends.

Unfortunately, he had major health problems that cut his career short. In the past few decades, he lived in San Manuel, AZ, a small town a ways NE of Tucson. When I came to Arizona I would stay with him and we'd hike nearby.

He came to see my father, Fred Mocking, in the last month of my dad's life in 2013, which gave extra emotional support to my dad, and to me.

I miss him.

A solid responsible human being who had a deep appreciation of the natural world. His parting is a loss for both the community of San Manuel and for the many that appreciated his intelligence and sense of humor.

Maybe 7 years ago after 2 years of training Vern and I made it up to Rice Peak in the Catalina Mts. Outside of the 360-degree view there was nothing there except a USGA marker 6" We laughed until we couldn't stand anymore.
