Berndt Waldner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2003.
Berndt Carl-Erik Waldner, 67, of Bovey, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Scooty Lake, Minn. Berndt was born June 8, 1935, and raised in a small fishing village in southwestern Sweden. As a youth and throughout his life he enjoyed listening to composers such as Miles Davis and Duke Ellington and was an avid jazz musician. In his younger years, he traveled the world with his fellow music performers in the Merchant Marines, following in the footsteps of the generations of sailors in his family and hometown. He received a degree in Civil Engineering in Gothenburg, Sweden, and started a family with a Swedish Au Pair he met and fell in love with while working in San Francisco. He worked as a civil engineer for Bechtel Corporation and Hanna Mining in Hibbing during the '60s and '70s, and was a respected contract engineer on the Iron Range. He enjoyed his later years in his home on Scooty Lake in Northern Minnesota, where he cherished his time with those closest to him. His gentle heart will be deeply missed by those who loved him. He is survived by his three sons, Carl Erik Waldner, St. Paul, Minn., Leif Waldner, Umea, Sweden, Lars Waldner, Duluth; ex-wife Aina Waldner, Duluth; two brothers, Gunnar Waldner and Anders Waldner, both of Sweden. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at a later date. Peterson Funeral Chapel in Coleraine, Minn., is making cremation arrangements.
