Bernice Elaine Chisholm

Bernice Elaine Chisholm, of Spring Hill, Florida, was born on April 18, 1924 and passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017. She was born in Richmond, Virginia, to Richard Josiah Chisholm and Daisy Valencia Farnum-Chisholm. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School and went on to complete the requirements for both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at Hunter College. Her formal training in the Spanish language made her a valuable asset to the agencies that hired her; reaching out to the Spanish community as she pursued careers in the Post Office, CBS, at the UN, and as a copy editor at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals from which she eventually retired. Her true heart, however, was in serving her Lord by assisting in the needs of her family, which taxed her resources as she faithfully administered care and support to her own mother in her later years; and then as her siblings advanced in life, she found herself assisting them, as well, with the demands of this life—most notably assisting her older brother (Frank Romeo) as he confronted the challenges of Alzheimer’s that affected his wife in her final days, as well as her brother Julius, as he wrestled with his own health issues in later life. Throughout her life she continued to enjoy the challenges of both the English and Spanish languages, while faithfully proclaiming the hope that is found in Jesus Christ alone, through the Christian gospel: often contributing to church programs and periodicals with her articles and poetry. She was a member of the Northcliffe Baptist Church in Spring Hill. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. She is survived by her nephews Frank Chisholm and spouse Sharon; Richard Chisholm and spouse Carmen; nieces Marlene Chisholm; Louise Chisholm-Blake and spouse Larry; Cheryl Johnson and spouse Thomas; Lena Simmons and spouse Alan. Visitation will be 10-11am Thursday, September 28, 2017. Funeral service will follow at 11am all at Northcliffe Baptist Church 10515 Northcliffe Blvd Spring Hill, Florida 34608. Burial will be at 1pm located at Grace Memorial Gardens in Hudson, Florida. Catered reception to follow burial located at Turner Funeral Home 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, Florida 34609.
