Bernice H. Lund, 83, of Onalaska, WI, died Friday, February 9, 2023, surrounded by family at home. Family is grateful for the compassionate support they received from Mayo Hospice during her last week of life. She was born December 1, 1939, in Alexandria, MN, to Herbert and Clara (Bohn) Ziegelman of Garfield, MN. She married Melvin Lund on May 24, 1958, in Garfield, MN, and they had three children, Terri, Todd, and Troy.
Bernice spent her working years with Melvin at businesses they owned, and later a secretary in the school Superintendent office in Warren, MN and finally spent last 22 years at Austin Utilities, from which she retired.
She was a lifetime member of the LCMS church and active in various church groups. She blessed others with her many talents: quilting, gardening, cooking and baking, and she loved visiting with neighbors, friends, and former co-workers. She also enjoyed living in Texas during the winter months, engaging in groups and activities and spending time with friends. She sent letters and cards to family and friends, never missing a birthday or anniversary. She always stayed connected via email, calls, and text messages; we marveled at her aptitude and desire to keep up with technology to keep in touch.
Bernice loved Jesus and she loved her family. She embraced every moment she had with family and felt blessed with the love that surrounded her. Those who had the good fortune to know her felt her effervescence and joy for life. She was a hard worker, a strong and steady matriarch, and always busy, yet quick to share a laugh with others, and also happy to laugh at herself. She had an energetic, fun-loving spirit that was magnetic, with the smile to match. Everyone felt welcome in her presence, and she showed her love by sharing good meals, delicious desserts, and she especially loved to do crafts or play games with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Terri (Michael) Lichtie of LaCrosse; son Todd (Tammy Sobania, and her son Phil (Tasha) Sobania and granddaughter Keira) Lund of Blaine, MN , son Troy (Patricia) Lund of Hastings,; grandchildren Trevor (Heidi) Lund, Jessica (Joe) Bushek, and Rebecca (Jake) Kramer, step-grandson Jeremy (Jen) Lichtie, her sister Margie Foslien of Bloomington, MN, plus great grandchildren, Sophie, Bennett, and Lennon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother, Ralph Ziegelman.
Memorial services will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Onalaska, WI on Thursday, February 16. Visitation is 12:30 pm, with a funeral service at 2:00 pm, followed by a luncheon. Schumacher-Kish funeral home is assisting the family.
Private burial with family will be at a later date.

To all of Bernice’s family. We had the privilege of knowing Mel & Bernice at both the Twin Palms RV & Mobile Home Park and at Citrus Mobile RV & Mobile Home Park. We so enjoyed knowing them. My husband Lowell passed December 4 2022. These last couple years he and Bernice shared O2 info. No doubt they are still sharing stories in the place Jesus had prepared for them. They are now pain free and no longer needing their pull around tanks.
Bernice loved all of you so much and was so appreciative of everything you did for her. She was so fortunate to have such a loving family.
My thoughts and prayers are with each one of you. May your precious memories comfort you and may God give you peace and strength for each new day. God Bless

As neighbors across the alleyway for many years, Mel & Bernice and their family. We enjoyed many events, including snowmobiling, fish fries, neighborhood parties, and many years of seeing our kids growing up together. We missed them from the neighborhood when they moved to Warren, MN. Todd, Troy, and Terri take care of yourself and my blessing be with you and the fond memories we shared.

Bernice was an amazing human being with a very confident personality. She was the perfect wife for my brother, Melvin.
She spent much time joyfully baking and cooking and sharing the goods with family, neighbors and friends. She loved her home and decorated it in such a homey warm welcoming manner for family and friends. Her phone calls were the best conversations, sometimes scolding, sometimes teasing, sometimes recommending that I should cook more, etc., sometimes sharing fun family stories or recipes.
She loved her kids and always mentioned things they had done or were special about each of them. In her last days, she was so grateful for Terri being her Hospice caregiver, shopping, cooking and so much more. She was grateful for Todd, he was a "good vacuumer" and cook. She was grateful for Troy as he was a very good cook, and she enjoyed his subtle humor.
She adored her grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments: Jessica, Rebecca and Trevor. She was so proud of her great-grandchildren: Sophie, Bennett and Lennon and their accomplishments.
Bernice created beautiful quilts and crafts for each family member.
I am joining you in missing Bernice so very much❣
❣With much love❣ Auntie Gracie
