Thank you Bernice ; I was fortunate to be in several vocal workshops with you over the years, including Philadelphia women´s chorus Anna Crusis inviting you to teach us some of your songs in the late 70´s, and the GALA conference in Seattle WA in 1989 where you taught us the beautiful song "I Be Your Water".. that you wrote for your partner. Plus seeing Sweet Honey perform live several times , all unforgettable experiences. I know you´re singing in heaven ..

My husband introduces me to Bernice Reagon and Sweet Honey In the Rock while he attended college in the late 70"s prior to myself! I made sure my girl scouts/others and I got a chance to see her perform her las performance in Miami Beach, Florida. Bernice Johnson Reagon of the Freedom Singers and Sweet Honey in the Rock - taught me so many lessons, but most of all she taught me how to STAND, raise my children and others by listening to the scares SOUTHERN African/Black Americans church/community songs, along with getting through and obtaining my PH.D. I AM FOREVER HUMBLE; I THANK YOU by FOREVER ACKNOWLEDING your GIFTS to US ALL, but most important to YOUR OWN SOUTHERN CULTURE HERITAGE! I WILL ALWAYS REMEBER - Bernice Reagon Johnson! DR. I remember seeing her and Sweet Honey at Sister´s Chapel at Spellman. From that day, I wanted every student I taught to listen and learn from her. Her voice is missed, but lives on in all those she touched with her clear eye towards justice.

I went to my first sweet honey show 1981 and it changed my life. To Toshi and her brother your mothers witnessing spirit will go on as long as I am blessed with "out-breath". To the sweet honey women thank you for keeping on. To Bernice I IMAGINE YOU IN THE UPPER ROOM. Dance in the forever glory of your maker by way of your parent. niki
