Bernice Wise Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2025.
Bernice Arlene (Sharp) Wise, 89, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away Monday, Sept 15th, 2025. Born December 21, 1935, in Tempe, Arizona, Arlene was a 3rd generation Arizonan. She spent her early years in Scottsdale then moved to Tucson during her teenage years where she resided the rest of her life.

Arlene's faith in Christ and dedication to her local church was very important to her. She began teaching Sunday School at age 16 at Valley Christian Church in Tucson. In later years, she taught Sunday School and bible studies at Pantano Christian Church, and was influential in implementing cutting edge programs such as Children's Church in the early '70's, a Love Loaf ministry, and a pastoral "Prayer Partners" ministry. She was a tremendous supporter of mission work, even taking trips to located fields in Mexico and Austria.

Arlene was very proud that she was a stay-at-home mom for her three children, but she was also active in the community. She raised German Shepherd puppies and conducted dog training classes. She was supportive of her children's involvement in 4-H and helped teach classes in cooking and sewing. She loved to garden, bake, sew, and crochet. After receiving her B.A. degree in early childhood education in 1982 from the University of Arizona, she did volunteer work at Schumaker Elementary School in Tucson. In later years, she enjoyed traveling to visit her out of state grandchildren and going overseas for river cruises in eastern Europe.

Arlene is proceeded in death by her parents Mervin and Mary Helen (Frank) Sharp, husband Ronald F. Moody and second husband Robert W Wise, both of Tucson. She is survived by her three children Glen (Ana) Moody of San Antonio, Judith (Jimmie) Coran of Tucson, and Karen (Jack) Wingate of Tucson; grandchildren Randy (Asia) Coran of Tucson, Rachael Van Horn, Katherine (Kevin) Herron, and Christine Wingate; four great-grandchildren, sisters Katherine Sharp, Elaine Koutsiukos, and Evelyn (Billy) Hines. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Because of her Bible study leadership, church involvement, and mission support, Arlene's influence was felt far and wide.

A Memorial Service for Arlene will be held Sunday, October 26th at 2 PM at Valley Christian Church, 5968 E Fairmount in Tucson. Memorial gifts may be made to Valley Christian Church or the charity of one's choice.

Arlene and I were old friends in every sense. We were the same age with both of our birthdays in the same month. And we have known each other for decades--through Bible studies and adventures together --mostly during our time at Pantano Christian Church.

She wanted to grow in her knowledge of God and in her relationships with her treasured family and friends.
I will miss Arlene.

Arlene was so open and kind to teach me about Jesus. She cared, listened, and guided me just when I needed her most. She saw promise in me and encouraged my growth in the Lord. I will always treasure our friendship. I will forever be grateful for her coming alongside a struggling young mother wanting to know Jesus. I had The Best! Rest in peace, Dear Arlene.

Such a kind, kind woman. She was devoted to her children.
There was never a doubt about her faith in God. What a wonderful life she led.
Wonderful memories from the 50s and early 60s.

Arlene was a beautiful and wise woman. She never feared to tell you what she thought and delighted in teaching new things. We will miss her dearly.

Arlene also was an accomplished artist. She began in high school. Pencil drawing was her favorite medium. After her children were grown she started going to art classes at Parks and Rec. Later she went back to Tanque Verde Adult Education and continued drawing in 2017 - 2019.
