PEORIA - Berrenice Jean Wessel, 83, of Peoria passed away at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Secor, Ill., to Carl and Elsa (Porth) Wessel.
Surviving are her sister, Carol (Bob) Aughenbaugh; her brother, Jerry (Judy) Wessel; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Arlo) Wessel; sister-in-law, Linda (Leroy) Wessel; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leroy, Delmar and his wife Joanne, and Arlo; and one sister, Onetta, and her husband, Ethan Weeks.
Berrenice Jean was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria for many years and was active in many church clubs and organizations.
She received her grade school education in Secor, Ill., and her high school education in El Paso, Ill. She received both bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Illinois State University.
After completing her degrees at ISU, she taught school at the primary level for more than 37 years in Danville, Ill., Decatur, Ill., Modesto, Calif., Bloomington, Ill., and Peoria, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6801 N. Allen Road in Peoria. Pastor Joe Meyer will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Secor Cemetery on U.S. Route 24 in Secor, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, Berrenice requested that donations be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church's Care Ministry.
