Bert Madill passed away June 25th, 2013.
Bert was predeceased by his wife Florence in 1995 and son Eric in 2003.
Bert is survived by his son Greg (and Lorena), their four children (Willow and Joe and great- grandson Eddy, Jairus, Jevan and Alyssa), daughter Bev (and Dave) and daughter Sharaya, and youngest son Doug (and Melanie) and their kids Katelynn, Tallin and Jerran.
Dad was born on January 28, 1923, the only child of Granville and Irene. As a young boy, Dad declared that he was going to grow up to be a Pilot! And he did. He entered the RCAF as an 18 year-old anxious to fight for freedom in WWII. He spent most of his war years serving in the Burma Theatre in India as a Fighter Pilot. Dad had a distinguished military career and after 25 years in the RCAF retired to civilian life, where he managed the Balmoral Curling Club, worked at Melton Real Estate, and was Property Manager at the University of Alberta.
We could fill this whole page with Dad's accomplishments, awards and notable achievements but we'd rather remember who Dad was. Dad's character impacted people. Dad respected people – and they knew it – whether he was an employee or the Commanding Officer. Dad was a man of good humour and integrity. He was loyal to his family and friends. Dad was a man of his word. We saw this when Mom became very ill and Dad stayed by her side, retiring early to care for her. Dad could be stubborn, self-centered and fiercely independent. He loved music – whether playing the organ by ear or singing with the local chapter of Barbershoppers. And Dad loved cats, martinis, shopping, gadgets and Hawaii!
Greg, Bev and Doug, along with Gundy's grandkids will be holding a Memorial Service and BBQ to celebrate Dad's life on Saturday, August 17th at 2 p.m. at Imagining
