Bertha Lopez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2025.
Bertha was born on December 30, 1941, in Tucson, Arizona, to parents David Alfred Sosa and Isabelle L. Sosa. She was a career State of Arizona employee, dedicating nearly two decades of service to AHCCCS from 1983 until her retirement in 2001. She served as a supervisor and was respected for her dedication, leadership, and service.

She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, known for her devotion, compassion, and kindness. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she held a deep devotion to Our Lady of Guadeloupe, drawing strength, comfort, and inspiration from her throughout her journey. Her love moved through lives like the branches of her favorite weeping willow, gentle and ever present. Though her time on earth has ended, her devotion to our Father, Lord, and Savior endures.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Lydia) Ruiz, Danny (Elaine) Ruiz, and Michael Ruiz; her grandchildren, Tyree Ferguson, Daniel David Ruiz II, Desiree Ruiz, Christopher Ruiz, Roman Ruiz, Nicolas Ruiz, Hailey Perez, and Briana Nicole Lopez; her great-grandchildren, Daniel David Ruiz III, Aiden Perez, Isabella Perez, Elias Perez, Roman Ruiz and Lucas Ruiz and a niece and two great-nephews. She is also survived by her mother, Isabelle Sosa, brother, David A. Sosa, and sister, Geri Sosa.

She was preceded in death by her father, David A. Sosa, and two sons, Robert G. Ruiz and Richard Anthony Lopez.

Anyone who entered her home was welcome, surrounded by love, inclusion, and great food. Her legacy is one of faith, family, and generosity.

Funeral services will be at St Matthew's Church, 320 N 20th Dr., Phoenix, Arizona 85009, on Thursday, October 9th. The services are from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
