May the trails be easy for you going forward, dear Bert, and the wind be always at your back. I can hear you over the yonder mountain bellowing Robert Service poems.

Bert will be missed by countless people. I was fortunate to get to know him while working at ATC/NERO in Lyme. He was one of a kind.

To Jill, Emily and family,
As a child living in Enfield Center I do remember Bert's laugh and his love for the outdoors. I remember the wonderful gardens on their property. Our thoughts are with you and may the memories who have provide strength during this sad time.

To Bert's family, my condolences. He was a good neighbor for many years as was Emily and Jill.

Blessed to have been touched by Bert's boundless generosity and his humor, I fondly recall numerous stays at the Stone House as a fledgling A.T. corridor monitor volunteer under Bert's tutelage. Bert would regale me with stories told in such an unassuming way - awe inspiring accounts that spoke to a lifetime of dedicated service to our country, to the Trail, and to his community. Bert's feeds were legendary - friendship, laughter, camaraderie nourished by popovers, beef stew, Michelob on tap, and strawberry-rhubarb pie with hand-cranked ice cream. Spend any time with Bert and you came to realize Jill held a special spot in his heart and that the pride and love he had for Emily were boundless. Bert was a great person. I will miss him.

To Bert's family, very sorry for your loss. He was a well known figure in our community, and very respected. Also, knew him as a chaperone on several class trips when Emily and my son were in elementary school together.
