Beryl Dickinson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2017.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Beryl Simms Dickinson announces her passing on April 25, 2017, exactly 18 years to the day of her beloved husband, Ennis on April 25, 1999. Beryl was born June 6, 1929, the youngest child of Henry F. Simms, Sr. and Elizabeth Hairfield Simms. She attended Spotsylvania schools and graduated in 1947. She joined Bethel Christian Church in 1942 at the age of 13, where her father served as a deacon. Beryl was blessed to have wonderful family and friends that always made sure her birthday and Christmas celebrations were special occasions. She had a long, full life of 87 years and out lived all of her siblings and their spouses as well as Ennis' siblings and their spouses. She would often refer to herself as "the last button on the coat." Beryl would often say, "I'm not going before my time" and we knew Mama did not fear death because she knew that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. She was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church, where she joined after her marriage to Ennis on February 28, 1948. To that union three children were born. She is survived by her daughter, June E. Nicholson (Roy) and her two sons, Robert and Phillip; three grandchildren, Wendy Dye (David), Jennifer Holmes (Keith) and Daniel S. Vogt (Michelle); nine great grandchildren, Derek, Heather, Collin, Autumn, Stephen, Hollie, James, Nick and Ryan; one great-great grandson, Wilson; her best friend, Dean Wheeler and her dear friend and hairdresser, Janet Brooks. Family and friends will be received at Travelers Rest Baptist Church on Sunday, April 30th between the hours of 4:00 – 8:00PM. Beryl will be laid to rest by her husband, Ennis, in a private service in the family cemetery. In lieu of traditional forms of sympathy, we ask that you have a meal at Captain D's or a hot dog at Burger King, two of her favorite places. We leave you with the words of Mother Teresa… "Heaven is our home. Dying is not the end, it is just the beginning. Dying is a continuation of life. This is the meaning of eternal life. This is where our soul goes to God, to be in the presence of God, to speak to God, to continue loving him with greater love. We only surrender our body in death, our heart and soul live forever." www.storkefuneralhome.com.

FOR YEARS WHEN I WAS YOUNG I ALWAYS PLAYED WITH BERYL'S CHILDREN. OUR FAMILY'S WERE GREAT FRIEND'S FOR MANY YEARS. WE WOULD GET INTO TROUBLE AND SHE WOULD TREAT ME AS HER OWN. ONE DAY WHILE BERYL AND HER HUSBAND WAS GONE ME AND PHILLIP DECIDED TO CLEAN THE UPSTAIRS OUT AND THREW EVERYTHING OUT THE WINDOW. ABOUT THE TIME WE GOT FINISHED HERE COMES BERYL AND HER HUSBAND AND MAN WAS SHE MAD WE HAD TO GO OUT AND TOTE EVERYTHING BACK, WHAT A JOB THEN SHE MADE ME GO HOME. THOSE ARE TIMES THAT I'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER.

Phillip, I am so sorry for your family's loss. Your mother was a lovely lady and with your devoted care, blessed to be able to live out her days in her own home. May you find comfort in memories and faith, and the knowledge that friends care.

Heaven gained a beautiful blue eyed Angel. Always a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. I know she's dancing in the sky with Uncle Ennis tonight.

Mrs. Dickinson, Beryl, as she reminded me was such a special person. What a delight to have met her as she became part of my heart! See, I met Beryl seven years ago when I retired from the military and moved to the big city of Snell. My church, The Rappahannock Indian Baptist Church was so far away that my wife Wanda and I decided to attend a local church. We visited a few churches in the community but none seem to fill our spiritual needs until we attended Traveler Rest Baptist Church. This is where we met Mrs. Dickinson. We introduced ourselves and it was love at first sight. From that day on, I always greeted Beryl with a kiss on the cheek. She seem to look forward to it and so did I! Phillip would always move out the way when he saw me coming, something I will always remember. Only Jesus Christ unites the spirits as though we knew one another all our lives. I know the angels are rejoicing at the coming home of a dear saint.
May God bless the family and remember one thing "What a glorious day that will be when my Jesus we will see" and all the love ones gone before us especially Mrs Dickinson smiling face!

BERYL WAS ONE OF THE SWEETEST NEIGHBOR'S YOU COULD EVER ASK FOR. I LIVED AT HER HOUSE MOST OF THE TIME PLAYING WITH HER CHILDREN. WAS ALWAYS WELCOMED THERE. OF COARSE GOT IN TROUBLE SOMETIMES AND SHE'D PUT ME IN MY PLACE AND DARED ME TO SAY ANYTHING OR SHE WOULD TELL MY MOM WHAT I HAD DONE. LOVED THAT FAMILY SO MUCH.AND STILL DO . HERE FOR ROBERT AND PHILLIP IF THEY NEED ANYTHING. YOU WILL BE MISSED MY FRIEND--NEIGHBOR-- SECOND MOM! LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!
