Beth Garske

Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Garske (Wilson), aged 82, passed away on July 4, 2024, in Spokane, WA. Beth was known for her vibrant personality, her steadfast dedication to her family and friends, and her dedication to mentoring and singing.

Beth literally married the boy next door when she met and fell in love with her husband of 50+ years, Doug Garske. After a short stint in the Army, stationed at Ft. Lewis in Tacoma WA, the couple moved back to Spokane to raise their family. Beth worked for School District 81 for many years until she moved to a career in real estate sales.

Beth cherished her career in real estate, which perfectly aligned with her love for social engagement and her natural talent for making lasting connections. Her work was more than a job; it was a way for her to help friends and community members find homes where they could make their own cherished memories.

A passionate member of Sweet Adelines International for over 56 years, Beth dedicated much of her life to the art of barbershop singing. She joined the Lilac City Chorus in 1968 and held various leadership roles, including regent for Region 13, and Team Coordinator. She was instrumental in chartering the Spokane Falls chorus, which later became Spirit of Spokane and later, the Rivers Edge chorus. Beth found great joy in mentoring new singers and reveled in the camaraderie of the group. Her musical talents were celebrated when her quartet, Past Reflections, was crowned regional champions in 1981. Beth was also a proud member and team coordinator of Ovation, a chorus composed of regional champions. and many other quartets over the years.

Beth is survived by her loving family: daughter Lauri Mathews and her husband Ken; son Bill Garske and his wife Tonya; brother John Wilson and his wife Teri; grandchildren Jessica, Danny, Luke, Nicole, and Hope; and great-grandchildren Lane, Gracie, Summer, Emma, Maxwell, Gwendolyn, Charlotte, Corbin, Shiloh, and Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Claire Wilson, her husband Doug Garske, her sister Ellen Hawley, and her granddaughter Sunny Mathews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 13th, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley. Beth's life was marked by her enthusiasm for connecting with others, her commitment to her community, and her unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

I was the gal who introduced her to Sweet Adeline´s. We had so much in common before we met especially because we married cousins.

Beth welcomed me into Sweet Adeline´s for the Christmas season at a time when I was caring for my husband with Alzheimer´s and I needed to joyful noise of the chorus. A few years after that Christmas season, I saw her at a funeral for her sister Ellen Hawley and, in a strange turn of events, a couple of years later married her widowed brother-in-law. Only in Spokane. May my new `sister-in-law´ rest in peace. I´m sure the angels welcomed her to help keep them on pitch.
