Charlie, my deepest sympathy goes out to you and your children. I have always had such fond memories of you and Betty when you started dating in our Boston days! I remember when you two took the house building course. And when Marraine was born. I was so fortunate to catch up with Bette a number of years ago. She was so happy and talked of you and the children, all grown up. I truly am so sad to hear of your loss. Leesa Easton (Cook)

On behalf of everyone in Coming Clean, of which she was a part, I expend my sincere condolences for her loss to Charlie and Bettie's children, grandchildren, her sisters and brothers and their families. May peace be with you all.

I am so so sorry to learn of Bettie's passing. I have never met such a warm loving person and always looked forward to seeing her with Charlie whenever I was back at Middlesex for reunions. This is a beautifully written obit. I am going to pass it on to the others of the Middlesex Class of 64. May God family and friends wrap their arms around you now at this time of grief.
All my best, Bill Purves

Bettie was a founding member and guiding spirit member of the Osprey group, a group of church people committed to environmental stewardship who meet monthly at Maine Audubon. She had a positive, dedicated, and fun-loving spirit that kept us going. Personally, she and I also compared notes on the joys and logistical challenges of being grandparents. Together with our husbands and other Ospreys, we were going to go out to Peaks Island together later this month. I will miss her a lot. Love you, Bettie. From Susan Gilpin

It was such a shock to hear about Bettie's passing. But she was half way to Heaven just by being at P.L. I've been trying to remember when I first met Bettie. I'm pretty sure I knew Marraine first through Pilgrim Lodge and State Youth Council and then met Bettie as a chaperone at an SYC event. It has been a long time, in any event, and I have always looked forward to seeing her at the UCC Annual Meetings through the years. I loved hearing all about Marraine and she loved to talk about her kids! I'm so sorry that I will miss the service. I will be out of town that weekend. Please know that you are in my prayers and I will be thinking of you and Bettie in many ways. Blessings, Ruth Thibodeau

Bettie was a dear friend and colleague. She made a difference every day, and I will miss her smile, her laugh, and her passion. Bettie will continue to be with us as we fight for safer products for all. Among my many cherished memories include two trips to DC with Bettie, and her sharing her story with Maine members of Congress. She also gave my son "One Duck Stuck" (from her and granddaughter Natalie). This children's book will always remind me of her and her efforts to work with others for the greater good. Hugs and prayers to her family and friends till we see you June 27th.

Bettie was the connector in our family, the one who could see beyond the sphere of her own immediate life to know the needs and joys of other family members and who helped us stay in touch with each other. She was always present for us in need or celebration. We miss her so much and will mourn her loss the rest of our lives.

To me, Bettie was a shining example of what being a nurse and really what being a human being should be about. I feel lucky to have known her and join you in mourning her death.

Chas and Family,

I am thinking of you, praying for you, sending love and positive energy your way. Bettie had, has the biggest heart.......I will always remember her for her love of our Lord and our Earth. She was a wonderful Sunday School Teacher and role model to Justin, all of us for that matter! He still speaks of her open mindedness as he and Will challenged her.......many Sundays .....yet she always loved them and embraced their energy as well!

Dear Kettell Family,

We at the American Nurses Association-Maine (ANA-MAINE) were shocked to hear of Bettie's sudden and untimely passing. A few of us had just spoofed with her on Facebook with her great sense of humor and obvious love of life, family and friends.

We will always remember and appreciate her passionate work aimed at protecting and maximizing Environmental Health and RN No Harm. She worked arduously to secure grants and partner ANA-MAINE with environmental groups in Maine on behalf of Maine citizens.

Bettie dug her heals into the work of securing excellence in waste management at her work site and was an influencing force to other Board members as well. We will miss her and commit to keeping her spark glowing in continued pursuance of environmental efforts. We pray your sorrow be lightened knowing her spirit and efforts touched hundreds of lives and made the world a better place.

On behalf of the Board and Membership of ANA-MAINE, I offer our deepest sympathy and best wishes,

Irene Eaton, President

Charlie, Marraine, Herb and Missy there are no words to express how deeply I share your loss with you. Bettie was extraordinary in many ways! One of the last times I saw her she gave me the biggest hug! She seemed truely happy, loving life. I am so thankful she had her retirement years although short it seemed she had them filled with all her passions, her beautiful relationships with her grandchildren, her great work for her church and her love for this earth? She leaves a hole in us but I day she will live on in us too. I hope I can do half of the great work she did in her life time.
