Betty was my friend. I actually went to Spring Brook on Dec 4th. I bought the Nelson house a cross the street on 5th street when my son was 4. He is now 31. She didnt like me and she told me so. I was a single mother. One snowy day we were both out shoveling and started to talk. From then on we were friends. I went on to have twin girls who were in band and choir. During Christmas time both sold poinsettias. I always bought from both. This started a tradition of me giving her a poinsettia every year at Chtistmas. She loved them. She would sit and look at that plant and say "ain't that a beaut?"
I cherished our visits. She would tell stories of the summer trips and building the house and places she worked. She loved nice fuzzy warm socks, chocolate and a good book or puzzle. Dec 4th this year I went to Bauer's and picked out a beaut of a poinsettia. I stopped at home and got her card and chocolates. The woman came to the door and I asked her of she could deliver them to Betty? She looked at me and I knew. I left and came back and asked her if she could give the poinsettia to someone who would enjoy it and I left. I miss her and have thought of her often since Dec. 4th. She was a very special lady and I was proud to call her my friend.
