Betty Lou Pittman

Betty Lou Surber Pittman, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care.

Betty was born February 4, 1929 in Wheeling, Missouri. The daughter of the late Charles Overton and Cotis Lorene (Goff) Surber. Betty attended Chillicothe Schools.

Betty married Frank J. Pittman in 1947. They had 3 children prior to his passing.

Betty worked at H.D. Lee in Kansas City, Missouri, managed the Plaid Stamp store in Chillicothe, also owned and operated for over 20 years, Parks Floral in Chillicothe, where the Chamber of Commerce recognized her for being the first female business owner. She later moved to St. Joseph, where she worked at Hendra's Floral and Bee Wayne Bakery, prior to retiring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, daughter, Marilyn Pittman Harwood and grandson, M. Christopher (Jazz) Hale; brother, Charlie Surber and sister, Rosalie Hapes.

Surviving family includes daughter, Linda C. Pittman Hale; son, F. Bradley (Bonnie) Pittman, all of St. Joseph; sister, Joan Kohrs (Don), Chillicothe, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and several beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Betty has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Friday at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, Missouri.
