Betty Smith Obituary

June 25, 1921 - Nov. 28, 2015 Betty Hammond Smith, age 94, passed away peacefully at Crowne Place on November 28, 2015, following a brief illness. Born in Nacogdoches, Texas on June 25, 1921, she was the youngest of five children. She worked, was married, and resided in Dallas, Texas before moving to Mobile in 1948. Betty lived her life selflessly and was dedicated to being a supportive and loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church for many years where she taught in the preschool and touched the lives of many children. Her life was an inspiration to her family and friends who lovingly remember her for her independent spirit, her loyalty, and her unwavering kindness to others. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph J. Smith, her parents, and her four siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Tenne Smith Johnson (Mike) and two grandchildren, Amy Johnson Hinton (Don) of Hattiesburg, Ms and Michael Vance Johnson of Mobile. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Madeline Randolph Hinton and Donald Everett Hinton, III (Beau) of Hattiesburg, two nieces and two nephews. The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Crowne Place for the unmatched loving care, support, and friendship extended to her. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 1, at Mobile Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Carter officiating. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com. Arrangements by:
