BETTY ANN STEVENS, age 83, died at the Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover, New Jersey, on Monday, March 23, following a prolonged illness. She was a resident of Flanders, New Jersey, where she lived over the past year with her son, Jeffrey, & his family. Mrs. Stevens was born February 6, 1926, in New York City, to the late Charles A. and Elizabeth Wright Slosson and resided in Greenwich, Connecticut. She attended the Madeira School in McLean, Virginia, and the New York School of Art in Manhattan. She married Jerome Stevens on June 21, 1947, & remained so until his passing on May 21, 1966. She wed Don. E. Stevens on May 7, 1971, in San Francisco. The couple had several residences over the years that included: LaJolla, California; Hebron, New Hampshire; Paris, France and Pinehurst, North Carolina. Betty was an active member of the "Riverside Board" and was a world traveler throughout her life. Betty is survived by her son, Jerome of Bangkok, Thailand, her daughter, Susan B. Moore of La Mesa, California, and her son and wife, Jeffrey and Susan Stevens of Flanders, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Michael Moore of La Mesa and Kelsea Stevens of Flanders. In addition, she has two step-grandchildren, Julianne Schmelter of Tampa, Florida, and Ethan Aronoff of New York City. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don, of 37 years who died in Pinehurst this past June 2008. The family will hold a private memorial service for Betty in Hebron, New Hampshire, in early summer. In lieu of flowers, her family asks for donations to their local hospices. We would like to thank the Compassionate Care Hospice and the Dignity in the Golden Years in New Jersey for their help and support.

Dear Stevens family, We're in Whispering Pines, NC and just have read your nice write-up about Betty. We are very conscious of their both being gone now and not up for lunch in Pinehurst. We will miss them both and all the wonderful memories we have had and all the ties to the Stevens and Iaccaci families and our times in Hebron. Our love and deepest condolences to all of you. What bittersweet news to hear. Aunt Betty was such a joy and had a wonderful zest for life. I was far away from home on a beach when I read your email and was deeply saddened, thinking about how lucky we were to have known such a beautiful soul, when 2 pelicans flew above my head in tandem, rising and falling on the breeze in perfect unison. I just smiled and knew that Betty and Don are together again sharing the incredible love they had for eachother. We send our thoughts and deepest sympathies to you during this very sad time. She was a great lady and will be terribly missed. Love to you all...

We're so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. We'll miss Betty, her grace, her wonderful humor and stories. On one of our fireplace mantels sits Betty's photograph of a moose trotting through Lilac Cottage and Meadow Wind's shared backyards--her proof to us that moose really aren't the elusive, mythical beasts we jokingly claimed ... and they can even leap picket fences in a single bound! Our thoughts and prayers are with you ...
