Betty Watson, born Betty Gartrell on October 15, 1924, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, peacefully passed away on November 24, 2023, at the age of 99 in Renton, WA. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments. Betty was a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.

Betty married Bob in April of 1953, she left her home in Toronto, Canada to partner with a Coast Guardsman. Bob was stationed in Michigan and Betty from Toronto, met at King Street Station in 1952 in Seattle while on a cross country train ride, they married months later. Their early years of marriage included much travel, they were stationed in the Philippines, Guam, Michigan, Hawaii, North Carolina, San Francisco and Seattle, where Bob retired and they bought a home in Bellevue in 1964. She was a homemaker for many years, raising 4 children. She was involved in her church and her Sororities. She worked as a florist at Bellevue Florist for several years and was always involved in many different crafts from furniture upholstery to toll painting. She also spent many years working for American Greeting cards & enjoyed that immensely. Betty had the gift of service, she volunteered into her mid eighties at Overlake Hospital gift store and several thrift shops. She had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and a smile for everyone and never found a piece of chocolate she didn't love! She was loved by all that came to know her.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Karen Benoit and Laurie Mitchell (Glenn). She was a loving grandmother to Ashley Mitchell (Amanda), Amy Mitchell, Erica Mitchell, Brandon Watson (Mikala), Kelsey Lenting (Jake), and Sam Askew. Additionally, Betty leaves behind four great-grandchildren Isaac & Callie Lenting, Robby Watson & newborn Levi Askew.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gertrude Gartrell, her beloved husband of 43 years, Robert (Bob), her daughter Kathy Askew, her son Robert (Rob), and her son-in-law Mick Askew. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

I remember taking Betty to lunch for her birthday at the Bellevue Club. We had a great time laughing and sharing stories. I will miss her.
