WILLIAMS
BETTY Mrs Betty Williams, of Disley, passed away on Sunday 911, June 2013, aged 85. Born in Rochdale she had lived in the area most of her life, but started her married life in Brighton with Val, her late husband. Mrs Williams leaves behind children Maxine and Christopher and grandchildren Matthew, Hannah, Daniel, Rebekah, Justin and Jonathan, as well as five great-grandchildren. Sadly, her youngest daughter, Vivienne, passed away 18 months ago. In 1966 Mrs Williams took up the post of Postmistress at Furness Vale Post Office, a position she held for over 16 years, before retiring and handing over the Post Office to daughters Vivienne and Maxine.
Mrs Williams took an active part in village life and was a founding member and chairman of the local WI. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, doing crosswords and reading and most of all the company of her family.
Betty was a happy and contented person, always ready for a laugh and a joke and had great strength of character. She will be missed greatly. Her funeral service conducted by Reverend Richard Mottershead and arranged by Jeremy Unsworth, took place at Stockport Crematorium on Wednesday 19th June.
