Beverley Baughan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2025.
Beverley Louise Baughan (née Bartlett), 94, died peacefully at her home in North Dartmouth, MA, with family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband, John J. Baughan.

Beverley was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 3, 1930 to Philip and Louise

Bartlett. She attended Bishop Strachan High School and graduated from Trinity College at the University of Toronto. She moved to Paris to travel and attend the Sorbonne, before returning to Toronto, where she worked as an assistant producer for CBC TV. It was here that she met a dashing American Air Force veteran, Jack Baughan, whom she married in 1958. Their new life brought them to New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, where they raised their five children and where Beverley pursued her Mass General Orton-Gillingham certification to tutor dyslexic children. In her elder years, it was not uncommon for former students to seek her out to thank her for her life changing work in their lives.

Beverley will be remembered as the cherished matriarch of our family, whose love, deep faith and quiet strength shaped three generations. She was a stickler for proper grammar, and none of our family, in-laws or friends were immune from correction! She was especially proud of her 15 grandchildren and worked to instill in them a desire to serve others. They remember working alongside "Muzzy" at the soup kitchen and other ministries or hearing about her weekly visits with prison inmates at Blessing Way. Beverley loved Jesus and was a longtime member of Spirit of Christ Church. At age 91, she established a weekly Bible Study for the residents at her Assisted Living facility, an event that continues today in her memory.

Beverley was a longtime resident of Westport Harbor, MA, where she enjoyed

membership in the Acoaxet Club and treasured summer gatherings with her children and grandchildren. She later moved to the Cottages of North Dartmouth, where she received excellent care and made many close friendships. She is survived by her sons Michael (Julie), Peter (Grace), Mark (Ines), Nicholas (Eileen) and her daughter Mary-Louise Howley (Kevin). We miss her dearly and suspect that even now she is looking down and silently correcting our grammar!
