Beverly Jean DeHoniesto (née Jones) (1948-2025)

Mrs. Beverly Jean DeHoniesto passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, with her daughter by her side.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 24, 1948, to Nathaniel and Annie Ruth Jones, and grew up with a love of learning, music, and community. Beverly graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1966 and earned her degree from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Following in the activist footsteps of her brother, Kenneth "Jackie" Jones, she spent several years in Washington, D.C., engaged in political organizing and community work before dedicating her life to teaching and mentoring students across the country.

Whether you knew her as Beverly, Bev, Ms. Bev, Ms. D, or Mrs. DeHoniesto, each name carried a story, and with each, she left a lasting impact on the lives she touched. She carried a love of life and shared that love with everyone around her.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and is survived by her daughter, Adero; her granddaughter, Amalia; and her sisters, Natalie and Gladys, along with countless students, colleagues, friends, and family who will never forget the love, guidance, and inspiration she brought into their lives.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 8447 Manresa Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32244. We invite guests to bring a single flower to add to a communal vase and/or a "Beverly-ism" - a favorite saying, memory, or quote of hers written on a note - to share at the service.
